Elon University softball team’s season ends with loss to UNC Wilmington

With the win, the Phoenix improved to 24-22 on the season, with an 8-10 record in conference play. The team is currently the sixth and last team in position to qualify for the CAA tournament, which will be played at Latham Park starting May 25.
Elon will play the University of North Carolina Wilmington for the CAA championship tomorrow. Wilmington is undefeated in the tournament, meaning Elon will need to beat them two times to win the tournament. The teams will play at 10 a.m. in the first game tomorrow and will play again at 12:30 p.m. in a winner-take-all game if Elon wins.

As the CAA Softball Tournament uses a double elimination bracket, the Phoenix get a chance to return to its home park and fight for its spot in the tournament. Elon will play at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow against either College of Charleston or Hofstra University.
With the win, Elon is set to play the number one seeded University of Delaware Blue Hens at 4 p.m. The last time the Phoenix played the Blue Hens was at Delaware, as Elon was swept in a three game series. Head coach Kathy Bocock said she sees this game going differently.
The Phoenix ended the game victorious, but that was not the only victory accomplished by the team. After the game, the team assembled outside the dugout with three chairs, tarps and clippers. One by one, 24 Phoenix players and three coaches made their way to the chairs to participate in a “haircut auction” in an effort to raise awareness and funds for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
Elon will play its final non-conference game of the season against North Carolina A&T State University on Tuesday before hosting Towson University, the CAA’s last-place team, for a three game series next weekend.
This is Elon’s fourth CAA team championship, as the team also won in 2021, 2016 and 2015.
Tomorrow’s final day at the Solomon Outdoor Track on the campus of Northeastern University will begin at 11:30 a.m.
Elon finishes its regular season with a 27-20 record and will play its first two games in the CAA Softball Tournament, which has a double-elimination bracket, on May 12. Elon's seed has not yet been determined.
