At least 20 emergency response vehicles from multiple departments responded to a fire at 5:45 p.m. at the construction site of the Danieley Center E apartment building, according to officials.

Town of Elon Fire Chief Landon Massey told Elon News Network that construction workers were inside of the building at the time of the fire, but evacuated before emergency services arrived on the scene. There were no injuries reported.

Massey said construction workers were completing electrical work which caused the insulation in a crawl space to light on fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire after entering the crawl space  which Massey said was a difficult task.

“We were able to quickly make entry to the crawl space, where the fire was,” Massey said. “We got it knocked down before it spread anywhere else.”

The apartments are currently vacant as they undergo a remodel for the second half of the 2026-2027 school year. Massey said he does not know at this time if this will affect the timeline for construction on the building. 

Units from Town of Elon Police, Campus Safety and Police, Gibsonville Fire Department, Town of Elon Fire Department, Altamahaw-Ossipee Volunteer Fire Department, Faucette Township Volunteer Fire Department and Guilford County Emergency Services Hazmat Team responded to the site. 

Elon Campus Police declined Elon News Network’s request for comment. 

The timeline: 

5:45 p.m. - First responders receive dispatch call. 

6:03 p.m. - Elon News Network arrived at the Danieley Center construction site, where at least 20 emergency response vehicles responded. 

6:16 p.m. - An Elon E-Alert was sent out stating, “Please avoid Danieley Center construction site due to an emergency response.”

6:20 p.m. - One Duke Energy and one PF Plumbing vehicle arrived. 

6:31 p.m. - Elon News Network is awaiting comment from Elon Fire Chief Landon Massey. Hazmat response has left the scene.

6:38 p.m. - Elon Fire Chief Landon Massey shares additional information with Elon News Network. 

7:01 p.m. - An Elon E-Alert was sent out stating “A small fire at Danieley E was contained to the crawl space and has been extinguished. No injuries have been reported. Emergency personnel will remain on scene to monitor the area.” 

By 7:30 - All emergency vehicles left the scene
