Elon University’s Active Minds hosts walk for suicide prevention

 In collaboration with Alpha Omicron Pi, the Walk for Suicide Prevention was organized to increase mental health awareness throughout the Elon community and featured tables hosted by various organizations and local businesses. Along with Active Minds, which raised nearly $1,500, AOII, Smitty’s Ice Cream, Phoenix Free, Counseling Services and Nate’s Cookies had tables at the walk to show their support for mental health awareness.

Elon University volleyball loses in four sets against Towson

After snapping Towson’s 18-match winning streak on Saturday, the Elon University volleyball team fell in four sets to the Tigers on Sunday. A late rally was not enough for the Phoenix, who is now 4-4 in CAA play.

Elon University women’s soccer blanks William & Mary in seniors’ last regular season game at Rudd Field

In its final home game of the regular season, the Elon University women’s soccer team defeated William & Mary to clinch a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament. Elon has won three matches in a row and can still win the regular season championship next week.

Leah Daniel becomes Elon University’s volleyball all-time kill leader in win against Towson

Senior outside hitter Leah Daniel made history in Elon University volleyball’s Oct. 15 match against Towson University, as she recorded 16 kills against the Tigers to become Elon all-time kills leader. With her efforts today, she surpassed the previous record of 1,461 career kills — previously held by Velma Degree.

Elon University women’s soccer beats Hampton for second straight conference win

The Elon University women’s soccer team outshot Hampton 32-3 and won 2-0 for its second straight CAA win on Thursday night. Abby Fusca and Ashlee Brehio scored the Phoenix’s two goals.

Elon Fire Department aided Graham in controlling mill fire

The fire was declared as under control with no reported injuries of firefighters or civilians at 1:20 a.m. Oct 12. Personnel from the city of Graham Fire Department stayed on site to extinguish any hot spots that might flare up throughout the day.

New Elon University residence hall plans shared with Town of Elon council

Construction plans for a new Elon University residence hall were presented to Elon Town Council at the regular meeting on Oct. 11. The council also approved a budgetary amendment and heard a presentation from the town of Elon Fire Chief Landon Massey.

Leonard Harrison drops out of ABSS Board of Education race

Leonard Harrison, one of six candidates running for a seat on the Alamance-Burlington School System Board of Education, dropped out of the race during the Oct. 11 ABSS Board of Education candidate forum. The forum, cosponsored by Elon University, was moderated by Ann Bullock, dean of the Jo Watts William School of Education.

Elon University men’s golf defends Phoenix Invitational title

For the second consecutive season, the Elon University men’s golf team won its home tournament, as the Phoenix carded a final round score of 280 on Tuesday to win the team competition at the Phoenix Invitational by five strokes.

Billy D’s officially opens at Elon University

The new retail location was originally set to open at the beginning of fall semester, but was delayed due to issues with the general contractor, according to head chef and owner William Dissen. The location  soft launched Oct. 5 and will be open until 10 p.m. today.
