Gov. Roy Cooper announces new grant program for businesses and nonprofits hit by pandemic

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper announced a new grant program directed towards businesses and nonprofits that have been hurt because of the coronavirus pandemic today during a press briefing. $15 million of federal funds are going towards the Job Retention Grant Program, in which businesses can qualify for up to $250,000 in grants, Cooper said.

What you need to know about Elon University move-in for fall 2020

Freshmen students moving into their college dorm room at Elon University are going to have to go through a different move-in process than past years due to the coronavirus pandemic. Citing coronavirus concerns, the university pushed up freshmen move-in and lengthened the time in which students can first come onto campus to help practice social distancing.

Federal judge gives delay before preliminary injunction to allow change in protest access

A federal judge is giving Alamance County officials and the city of Graham  “a short delay,” before a preliminary injunction to change access to the grounds of the Historic Courthouse in Graham if they so choose, according to an opinion written by the court.

5.1-magnitude earthquake felt in Elon, North Carolina

The earthquake's epicenter was in Sparta, North Carolina, approximately 116 miles northwest of Elon University's campus. People reported waking up to the shaking, which lasted for a brief period of time starting at approximately 8:07 a.m. ET.

Elon University encourages LabCorp tests for required COVID-19 testing

Elon University's required COVID-19 testing as laid out by the Ready & Resilient plan is now in full swing. Elon is requiring that all students, faculty and staff returning to campus in the fall get tested, encouraging students to use Pixel by LabCorp, an online service that allows individuals to test themselves at home. The LabCorp test has been a cause of concern for some.

Gov. Roy Cooper extends Phase 2 coronavirus guidelines as schools set to reopen this month

Alamance County Sheriff's Office arrests, charge 21 people in prostitution operation

“Operation Summer Heat'' resulted in the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office, Mebane Police Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to arrest 21 people, some from all over the state, for soliciting for profit prostitution, including three of the 21 on drug related charges, according to Sheriff Terry Johnson.

Graham repeals protest permit ordinance, but litigations continue

After a lawsuit and subsequent protests, Graham City Council has repealed its ordinance requiring protesters to apply for a permit in order to gather. On behalf of the Alamance County chapter of the NAACP and other protesters, civil rights groups filed a lawsuit on July 2 against the city of Graham and other Alamance County officials.

Faculty and staff request accommodations for work in the fall, cite confusion with the process

High-risk faculty and staff can apply for accommodations for the fall semester as the coronavirus pandemic remains a threat. According to Elon's Human Resources website, the process for requesting accommodations in the fall is a seven-step process.
