The Elon University women’s golf head coach Chris Dockrill announced his retirement on April 20 after 27 years with the program.

Women’s golf finished in 4th place this year in the Coastal Athletic Association tournament.

Dockrill has been the Elon women’s golf coach since 1999, after spending two years as an assistant coach for the men’s program.

During his tenure with the Phoenix, Dockrill had 22 top-five finishes in conference championships. He won 12 tournaments since joining the Coastal Athletic Association in 2014.

"Chris has given so much to this institution, as a student-athlete, as a coach, and as someone who genuinely cared about the young women who came through our golf program," Elon Director of Athletics Jennifer Strawley said.

Dockrill was inducted into the Elon Sports Hall of Fame in 2014 for his contributions to the Elon men’s golf team from 1984 to 1986.

"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have coached at Elon and want to thank Dr. Alan White, Dave Blank and Jenn Strawley for their support over the years," Dockrill said in a press release from Elon Athletics.

A national search for Elon's next women's golf head coach will begin immediately, according to Elon Athletics.
