DJ ecuatoriano comparte sus raíces en Elon

Si bien la música ha formado una gran parte de la cultura de Kevin Alvarado, las raíces de su familia en Ecuador también han tenido un efecto en la persona quien es hoy en día. Durante su infancia, Alvarado pasó un verano con sus abuelos en Cuenca, donde pudo sumergirse en la cultura de sus padres.

Ecuadorian DJ shares roots at Elon

While music has been a large part of Kevin Alvarado’s culture, his family’s roots in Ecuador also have impacted cultivating the person he is today. During his childhood, Alvarado spent a summer with his grandparents in Cuenca, where he was able to immerse himself in the culture of his parents.

Democratic county commissioner candidates describe platforms, visions for Alamance County

Democrats Bob Byrd, Dreama Caldwell and Kristen Powers will battle three Republican candidates in the November general election for three open seats on the Alamance County Board of Commissioners.The Board of Commissioners is composed of five elected officials who serve as the governing body of Alamance County. Board members serve four-year terms, and elections for the board are held every even-numbered year.

Makeup of the Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees — a governing body at the university that aids in decision-making — contains parents, alumni and donors, but is also populated by former CEOs, authors and doctors.The board is composed of 35 individuals: there are 26 male trustees and nine female trustees. 30 of the trustees, or 86%, are white.

Purpose of Elon University's Board of Trustees

Unlike President Connie Book, Vice President for Student Life Jon Dooley and other administrators at the university, the Board of Trustees rarely faces the public. The board is composed of Elon graduates, donors and other important members of the surrounding community who pool their thoughts and resources in an effort to further the university’s commitments and goals.

Expanding Elon's Latinx community with El Centro

Students get involved through From the Flames Challenge

The From the Flames Challenge includes a semester-long scavenger hunt and other unconventional competitions. According to Schmiederer, it was created to help bring the community together and to encourage students to get to know Elon on a deeper level. The “quirky” scavenger hunt, found on their new Instagram page, encourages students to get to know Elon on a deeper level, while having fun solving clues for challenges.

Deep breaths: Air ventilation on campus upgraded

Physical Plant assessed each building’s unique heating, ventilation and air conditioning system over the summer, maximizing airflow while maintaining 40% to 60% humidity in each building, according to Flood. This level of humidity is ideal for limiting the spread of respiratory viruses, according to a recent study in the Annual Review of Virology.

Elon students concerned about safety following pro-Trump convoy

It’s been one week since the convoy drove through campus, and many Elon University students are still feeling unsafe and are unhappy with Elon’s response. Many students feel that the university has not done enough to protect minoritized students and are upset with the response from Elon President Connie Book.

Elon women’s tennis builds championship culture on energy, trust

As junior Mariana Reding was preparing for her serve, she first checked in with fellow junior and longtime doubles partner Simone Bergeron. Reding nodded, affirming Bergeron’s suggestion. The small gesture was enough. Bergeron called for a kick serve out wide. The plan worked. Reding served outside, moving her opponent off the court. Bergeron pounced on the shallow angle the team got in response, forcing their opponents to hit a weak return. Reding had an easy volley to finish off the point. She missed it. But walking back — it’d be hard to tell. Instead of screaming or crying, Reding laughed.
