After Elon University sophomore Owen Bramanti said his laptop and book bag were stolen from the Student Union Board office in the Moseley Center last week, he’s had a heightened awareness of the potential for similar incidents on Elon’s campus.

Elon Town Council debate new social district

Alamance County judge dismisses Confederate monument lawsuit

A superior court judge from the Alamance County Historic Courthouse dismissed a lawsuit Sept. 13 from the North Carolina NAACP requesting the removal of the Confederate monument in downtown Graham.

Elon University Student Government Association announces freshman class election results

11% of the freshman class voted in Elon University Student Government Association elections with a total of 179 ballots cast. Last year, a total of 552 ballots were cast. The results were announced Sept. 12 in Moseley Center.

Elon University hosts first booster clinic of 2022-23 academic year

Elon University will host a booster clinic Sept. 12 from 2 to 6 p.m. in Alumni Gym. Students can sign up to get a Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. In order to get a booster shot, it must be at least two months since the last vaccine dose or booster.

Elon University named No. 1 national university for excellence in undergraduate teaching by U.S. News & World Report for second consecutive year

Elon University is ranked No. 1 for excellence in undergraduate teaching for the second consecutive year by the U.S. News & World Report “Best Colleges” Guide, which released rankings Sept. 12. The university also received a No. 6 ranking in the “Most Innovative,” gaining three spots from last year, and was ranked No. 89 overall among national universities.

Get to know the overnight Elon University staff

It’s 3 a.m. inside Belk Library. Because the building is open all night during weekdays, all the lights remain on. From the first floor, it’s impossible to hear Tammy Wilson, Belk’s overnight janitor, wiping office windows and emptying trash cans on the second and third floors. Even for a library, the silence is overwhelming.

Safia Swimelar, professor of political science and policy studies, explains Gorbachev’s efforts to democratize Russia’s political system, his role in the breakup of the Soviet Union and why Gorbachev’s legacy is crucial in understanding modern Russian and world politics, including the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Elon University men’s soccer overcomes Stony Brook in rainy rumble

Even a rainy day at Rudd Field wasn’t enough to deter the Elon University men’s soccer team from getting back in the win column, as it hosted and bested Stony Brook in a 1-0  contest. The win not only propels the Phoenix to a 3-1 record but also makes Elon 1-1 in Colonial Athletic Association Conference play.

Sweet B Cookies to open Holly Hill Mall storefront

Burlington resident Brittany Shaw gives back to the community through what she knows best — baking cookies. She began baking as a way to make money while in nursing school. Now, she owns her own company, Sweet B Cookies. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, she had to close and find another job, but Shaw said as she gets back into business, she never lost sight of her dream.

Elon University’s Student Government Association executive board outlined its priorities for the year to the rest of SGA. SGA hosted a town hall open to Elon’s student body on Sept. 8, however, as the only students in attendance were SGA members, the executive board instead shared its plans for the year with the rest of the organization.

Elon University students react to death of Queen Elizabeth II

British monarch Queen Elizabeth II died Thursday. She was 96. Doctors had placed the queen under medical supervision at Balmoral Castle in Scotland Sept. 8 after they became concerned about her health, according to a statement from Buckingham Palace.
