Sunday, Sept. 11 is the 21st anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center. The anniversary is known as Patriot Day. 

Both Graham and Greensboro will host remembrance events Sept. 10. 

Graham’s 9/11 Commemorative 5K Event

Events for Graham’s second annual Commemorative 5K will begin at 7 a.m., with the opening ceremony scheduled for 8 a.m. The 5K Run/Walk event will begin 30 minutes later. 

The run/walk event will conclude with a medal ceremony at 9 a.m. Community events and activities, which are open for all ages, will run from 10 a.m. until noon. 

Graham’s commemorative events will be held on the City Hall Campus, located at 201 S. Main St., Graham, NC 27253.

Greensboro’s Memorial Stair Climb

The memorial stair climb will be held at the Bellemeade Parking Deck, located at 220 N. Greene St., Greensboro. Registration opens to the public at 7:30 a.m., and the event itself will begin at 9 a.m. 

The public will have the optional choice to climb the parking deck stairs a total of nine times, which equals the 73 flights of stairs that first responders climbed at the World Trade Center. 343 New York City firefighters died on Sept. 11.
