Elon University women’s soccer defeats Monmouth in CAA clash

Elon University women’s soccer continued to stay hot in Colonial Athletic Association conference play as it hosted and took down Monmouth in a 1-0 contest. The win not only puts the Phoenix on a three-game win streak, but also makes it a perfect 2-0 in conference play.

CHEAT SHEET: Comparing monkeypox to COVID-19

Monkeypox was declared a global health concern over the summer and on Aug. 19, Alamance County had its first case of monkeypox. This is a disease that, according to the CDC, is spread through physical contact on the monkeypox rash itself, through touching objects that have been used by someone else with monkeypox or contact through saliva.

Men involved in East Haggard Avenue shooting identified as Burlington residents

Town of Elon police have released more information about the Sept. 17 shooting at 957 E. Haggard Ave., identifying the two men involved as Burlington residents, ages 52 and 55. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation remains active, according to the police department.

Burlington resident Lorena Meza Lara spent her early childhood growing up in Mexico. She played outside until the sun went down and would pick out shapes in the stars. She remembers getting her allowance and walking to the corner store for a raspado, a snow cone with fruit. She walked to and from school everyday.
