One last time: Senior Day for Elon football

Sixteen senior Elon University football players made their way from the locker room in Alumni Field House, down the hill behind the north end zone and through the smoke, onto the field one last time at Rhodes Stadium. Running, walking or hobbling, the seniors took to the sod for their final home game.

No. 5 Elon stumbles in final home football game against Towson

Elon University football’s hopes of a conference championship came to an end at Rhodes Stadium Saturday when the No. 5 Phoenix (6-3, 4-2) fell to No. 20 Towson University (7-3, 5-2) 41-10. This was Elon’s worst loss of the year and the most points they have given up all year.

Elon University fell to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 116-67 on Friday, Nov. 9, to a packed house in Schar Center. The big game has come and gone, but the next question is whether or not the fans will stay.

UNC basketball dominates in Elon Schar Center opener

Schar Center hosted its first men’s basketball game Friday night. Serenaded by hoop-hungry fans, Elon University men’s basketball team got their spotlight matching up with the the No. 8 team in the country: the Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels humbled the Phoenix 116-67, dropping the Phoenix to 1-1 on the season.

Halftime update: Elon vs. UNC

Elon University's men's basketball team is officially settled into their new space. The Phoenix finds itself down 63-45 at the break. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill graduate-year guard Cameron Johnson leads all scorers with 16 in the half. Senior guard Sheldon Eberhardt leads the Phoenix with 11 points.

To ring in the special occasion Elon brought in the No. 8 University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Tar Heels to break in Schar Center. No matter how uneven the game may seem on paper, they play every game for a reason.

One of Elon University’s major components of its strategic plan began its journey on Oct. 21, 2016. Surrounded by members of the board of trustees, then-University President Leo Lambert broke ground on the new 5,100-seat, 160,000-square foot Schar Center.

Men's basketball ready to defy expectations

After going 14-18 (6-12 CAA) last year, Elon University men’s basketball begins its first year playing in the Schar Center starting Oct. 30. With its collection of new young players and returning talent, the Phoenix are expected to finish eighth in the Colonial Athletic Association this season.

Summers enters the winter of his Elon career

It’s the end of the Elon football journey for senior running back Malcolm Summers. The senior announced on Twitter Thursday night. After not playing the previous two games for the Phoenix, and speculation swirling on when, or if, the deep back would return; Summers closed the book officially on his career two days before Elon’s game against the University of Rhode Island.

The Elon University women’s basketball team kicked off its preseason with a 58-54 victory against the Belmont Abbey College Crusaders. Though the team has started the season strong, there are still plenty of difficult matchups for the Maroon and Gold to take on.

Elon University’s football team clocked in at No. 5 (5-2, 3-1) in the first, and only top-10 ranking the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee will release until the final playoff bracket becomes available at the end of the season.

Women's basketball gets exhibition win over Belmont Abbey

Saturday, Oct. 27 was the first exhibition match between the Elon University Phoenix and the Belmont Abbey Crusaders. Elon was able to outlast the Crusaders 58-54 in the tune-up game.

Elon volleyball loses to Northeastern in straight sets

Elon University volleyball (13-10, 4-7) lost in straight sets Friday evening to the Northeastern University Huskies (13-11, 6-5). This was the Phoenix’s second loss to the Huskies in less than a month, snapping their five-game winning streak. For the Huskies, this is their second win in a row, after having dropped their previous three.
