N.C. zoos impacted by COVID-19

Despite the overwhelming impact of the coronavirus, representatives from local zoos said that animal care must continue regardless of the status of the pandemic. The representatives said they hope to continue to educate the public while still following precautionary guidelines.

Dennis Riddell projected to win re-election for North Carolina house District 64

Incumbent Dennis Riddell has won the N.C. house representative seat for District 64. According to the North Carolina State Board of Elections dashboard, Riddell beat his opponent, Eric Henry, by almost 20% of votes.

Democrat Ricky Hurtado projected to win North Carolina District 63 race

Ricky Hurtado has won the race for District 63 of the North Carolina House of Representatives. According to the North Carolina State Board of Elections dashboard, 20 out of 20 precincts are now reporting tallied votes. The NC District 63 race was a close race between the two candidates.

Alamance County commissioners projected to maintain Republican majority

With 38 of 38 precincts reported in, the three Republican candidates for county commissioner — John Paisley, Jr., Bill Lashley, Jr. and Pamela Thompson — took the three seats available. John Paisley won the majority of votes for county commissioner with 18.48%.

Amy Galey projected to win North Carolina State Senate District 24 seat

Republican Amy Galey has won the North Carolina District 24 Senate seat against her opponent Democrat J.D. Wooten, after all the precincts have reported their results. Election results show Galey winning with 52.53% of the votes, against Wooten’s 47.47%.

Peaceful march to the polls in Graham following Saturday’s attempt to march

Elon Votes sees increase in student voter registration, expects greater turnout in 2020 election

Elon University students historically have had lower political participation. The Princeton Review ranked Elon six in the country for colleges with the least-politically active students, based on students’ ratings of their own political awareness. Since August 2020, 32% of Elon students have registered for the first time with Elon Votes.

Alamance County voters head to the polls on Election Day

As of Nov. 3, North Carolina had 7.3 million registered voters, according to the North Carolina State Board of Elections website. NCSBE said it anticipates that the results reported by the end of election night will include 97% or more of all ballots cast in North Carolina in the 2020 general election. Some Alamance County voters opted to vote in-person on Election Day.
