RESULTS: Elon Board of Aldermen

With five out of five town of Elon precincts reported in, there were 1,172 total votes for the Elon Board of Alderman Election. There were 623 votes for Bourland, 522 for Orwig and 27 write-in ballots on election day.

Two candidates campaigned for Burlington mayor. Incumbent and Elon alumnus Ian Baltutis has served as the mayor of Burlington since 2015. Jim Butler is a current member of the Burlington City Council and has served on the city council since 2017.

Elon University staff member Stephanie Bourland and Elon Community Church Senior Pastor Randy Orwig will fill the two vacant seats on the Elon Board of Alderman. The polls have closed which means Bourland and Orwig, who were running unopposed, will join the board.

From page to pilot

Alumna Lauren Memery '21 cried when she finally got to see her characters come to life on film last year. After months of refining and research, Memery watched as her screenplay, “They Told Us We Were Girls,” went from the page to a television pilot. This, she said, would have not been possible without the support she found in NewWorks, a drama and theatre studies-based club at Elon.

Valerie Epperson, residente del condado de Alamance, afirmó que no cree que estaría viva si no fuera por la Clínica Open Door del condado de Alamance, una clínica que brinda atención médica gratuita a personas sin seguro médico. “Cuando empecé a ir a la clínica, mi diabetes estaba descontrolada y comía lo que quería. Simplemente no me importaba”, dijo Epperson. “Cuando tienes a alguien que te ayuda, te mantiene alerta y te recuerda constantemente: ‘Tienes que hacer esto. Tienes que dejar de hacer aquello’”.

Local healthcare clinic provides lifeline to uninsured Alamance County residents

Alamance County resident Valerie Epperson said she doesn’t think she would be alive right now if it were not for the Open Door Clinic of Alamance County, a clinic that provides free healthcare to people who do not have insurance. “When I first started, my diabetes were out of control, and I was just eating anything I wanted. It’s like, I just didn’t care,” Epperson said. “When you have someone there to help you, it keeps your mind open all the time about, ‘Hey, you need to do this. You need to stop doing this.’”
