Local Farm doing its part to fight hunger in the area

The 720 acres of woods, fields, streams and pastures of Guilford County Farm border one of North Carolina’s 349 food deserts, where some low-income families lack access to sustainable nutrition. However, Guilford County officials and community members are working to change that by donating fresh produce.

Title IX pioneer speaks at Elon

The Burlington mayoral election explained

There are three candidates vying for votes in the primary municipal election, which will be held this Tuesday, Oct. 8. The mayoral office for the City of Burlington will be on the ballot. Polls open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m.

Alamance County Crop Hunger Walk celebrates 50 years

It was chilly on Saturday October 6, but not chilly enough to stop over 150 walkers raising money to end hunger in Alamance County. The Alamance County Crop Hunger Walk hosted their 50th annual 5K walk some walking, some running, and some staying behind to offer support.

Men's soccer downed by Drexel

Elon Men's Soccer (3-6-1) fell to the Drexel Dragons (4-5-1) 2-1 on Saturday night, falling to 0-4-0 in the CAA. The game was defined by number of missed opportunities for the Phoenix.

OAKtober Fest

Elon’s Student Union Board hosted a new fall festival Saturday night. The festival, titled ‘OAKtober Fest’ after the German ‘Oktoberfest’, featured live music, food, pumpkin painting, and s’mores.

First-year parking lot causes safety concerns

Less than a month after the new first-year parking lot opened by the Francis Center, freshmen are raising concerns about their safety walking to and from the Gateway lot. Elon freshman Andy Bowman works at the Publix grocery store in Burlington, around a ten minute drive from campus. Bowman said that as a manager, he usually gets off of work at 11:15 p.m. After his shift is over, Bowman drives back to campus and then walks from the first-year parking lot back to his dorm in Colonnades — totaling a 30-minute walk. Bowman said that he usually gets back to his dorm at 12:30 a.m.

ABSS plans to better district with 6-step rezoning plan

The Alamance-Burlington School System has a six-step plan for its district-wide rezoning, developed in collaboration with SchoolCAMP, a professional consulting firm affiliated with North Carolina State University’s Institute for Transportation Research and Education. The plan, currently in its second phase, is expected to be complete by spring 2026. It includes a land use study, community engagement, zonal mapping, a board vote, family notification and implementation. The rezoning will then take effect in the 2026-27 academic year.
