In nine of the past ten presidential elections, the Republican party candidate has won the state of North Carolina. President Barack Obama was the lone Democrat to take the state when he won it by 0.32% in 2008. Six no-trespass orders have been issued by campus police to individuals who yelled at students and faculty during a recent parade through Elon University’s campus supporting President Donald Trump’s reelection bid, according to Vice President of University Communications Dan Anderson. The orders are certified documents from interim Director of Campus Police Doug Dotson, delivered to the individuals after a request by President Connie Book following the convoy's ride through campus.
The social mobility category looks at a school's capabilities to graduate and support students who receive a federal Pell Grant. In this category Elon ranked in the bottom 20 for national universities, No. 371. According to the U.S. News and World Report website, the factors that go into the social mobility category are a part of the “17 different measures of academic quality” that go into determining the overall rankings.
Republican Amy Galey and Democrat JD Wooten are facing off to win the North Carolina State Senate District 24 seat this November, covering Alamance and part of Guilford County. With incumbent Rick Gunn (R) having stepped down after his 2018 term in office, both Galey and Wooten would be serving in this role for the first time if elected.
