Working to diversify the students engaging in global experiences

For almost a decade, Elon University’s 2010-2020 strategic plan has emphasized the importance of growing the university’s global engagement program by committing to eight central themes to better Elon. Two of the goals in the plan were to double need-based financial aid and provide access to study abroad programs for 100% of the student body.

Keeping holiday traditions sustainable on campus

Once a year, Elon University students gather around Alamance fountain, sipping hot drinks and listening to music. Santa and Mrs. Claus can be spotted posing for cameras and talking to children. The soft light from the Luminaries illuminate paths around Alamance and Moseley Student Center. Last night, the campus and town community joined to celebrate the holiday season and take in the sights of the 35th annual Festival of Holiday Lights.

Every year Elon community members gather outside of the Alamance Building for the annual Festival of Lights. The celebration, in part, is a way to honor donors to the school by lighting lanterns and placing them along the pathways of the university.

Men's basketball pulls off its first D1 win of the year

The Elon University Phoenix (3-6) defeated the Kennesaw State University Owls (0-6) 70-46 in its first game back from Thanksgiving break. The Phoenix were hoping to break its six-game losing streak against the Owls, who have yet to win this season.

Search committee for next director of campus police finalized

Elon University has started the search process for the next director of Campus Safety and Police. Dennis Franks, who currently holds the position, will be leaving at the end of December to become the chief of police in Stallings, North Carolina — approximately two hours from Elon, just south of Charlotte.

More than just a Car Club

During his freshman year, junior Ayo Onasanya found himself constantly parking next to the same car but never met its driver. Weeks into his sophomore year, Onasanya spent some time at Org Fair chatting with the students behind the Elon Motorsports and Driving Club table and met his future roommate — the man he’d parked next to for a year.

Elon men's basketball falls to No. 5 UNC in Chapel Hill

Elon men’s basketball travelled to Chapel Hill to take on the fifth ranked team in the nation: University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. After a hard fought first half, the Phoenix fell to the Tar Heels 75-61. The Phoenix now sit at 2-3 on the season.
