Su’ad Abdul Khabeer, a scholar, artist and activist performed parts of her book “Muslim Cool: Race, Religion and Hip Hop in the United States” on Thursday night in LaRose Theater. Su’ad — an anthropology professor at the University of Michigan — explored the roots of hip-hop culture and being an American Muslim while putting blackness in the center of American Islam.

Assistant professor of education Julie Justice died of a “prolonged illness” on Wednesday, Feb. 26, according to an announcement today from President Connie Book. The university will host a Gathering of Friends in memory of Justice on Friday Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. in Numen Lumen Pavilion.
