Elon University campus police conduct investigation at Moseley Center

Elon University campus police conducted an investigation at the Moseley Center following a 911 call reporting a suspicious package, according to an Elon E-Alert Aug. 8. Campus police evacuated the building and the alert encouraged people to stay away as the investigation is ongoing and await further instructions.

 A 30 minute drive from Elon, Sedgefield Country Club has hosted the Wyndham Championship since 2008. This is the only major professional sporting event that Greensboro hosts annually.

Alamance Burlington School System introduces new mobile app

Iconic statue to leave Graham

Alamance Arts will host a going away party for "Embracing Peace" Thursday, Aug. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring entertainment and the history of the sculpture. The last day to view the statue will be Aug. 14 before dismantling takes place Aug. 15 and 16.

Elon University announces speaker series programming for 2022-23 academic year

This year’s speaker series is presented by WUNC North Carolina Public Radio and will explore “living well in a changing world,” according to the university’s website. All tickets for the speaker series will be free for students, staff and faculty cost $15 for those without an Elon ID.

Getting to know William Dissen: a new addition to Elon Dining

The quick-service restaurant opened its only other location in 2018 at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro. The menu features southern fried chicken sandwiches and baskets with sides such as macaroni and cheese, waffle fries and coleslaw. Billy D’s will be available as a retail option for students who have purchased a meal plan, and the Chicken Shack downstairs in McEwen Food Hall will be discontinued.

Alamance County rises to high levels of community COVID-19 transmission

Alamance County once again has high levels of community COVID-19 transmission. It is among half of North Carolina counties with high transmission, according to data from the state’s Department of Health and Human Services. The increase in transmission comes as the more transmissible Omicron BA.5 variant overtook other variants in the state, leading North Carolina cases. Last week, there were 450 positive cases in Alamance County.

Elon University student awarded $1,500 by the Negative Population Growth Annual Essay Scholarship Contest

Incoming Elon freshman Aaron Chan was awarded $1,500 by the Negative Population Growth Annual Essay Scholarship Contest. Chan, from Garner, North Carolina, wrote his essay about how population growth affects the ecological footprint and biocapacity of the United States.
