Elon baseball player looks to build on summer league experience

The Phoenix will tip off against the fifth seeded Cougars at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 11 at the Daskalakis Center on the Campus of Drexel University in Philadelphia. The winner of that game will advance to the semifinals and play either Drexel, Hofstra University or the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.
For the past four years, Cox was a staple on Elon’s defensive line, winning the team’s Most Valuable Player award for his performance in the spring 2021 season and served as the team captain for his last two seasons before graduating last fall. Cox is set to move over to Sweden on March 13 and the Swedish Superserian season will begin in April.
When wrist injuries and the pandemic robbed her of an outlet for her competitive spirit, Sarah Austin rediscovered disc golf. Austin, an Elon senior, now frequents local courses and tournaments as a proud professional disc golfer.
Lauryn Carlton grew up in Burlington and attended Western Alamance High School — just a few miles from Elon University’s campus. Carlton said she’d anticipated that if she continued with a sport in college, it would be soccer — not football or track and field. But when she accepted Elon’s offer, she didn’t realize that she would continue to share her strength and success with her hometown.
Elon returns to Latham Park on Tuesday, March 8 to host the University of Notre Dame at 4 p.m.
The Elon University men’s basketball team season came to an end with a 75-58 loss to the University of North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks in the quarterfinal game of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament. Despite the Phoenix maintaining a lead for the entirety of the first half, UNCW came out flying in the second half to take the lead, and never let it go.
Elon will face North Carolina Central University on March 9 in the final contest of a 10 game homestand. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
Elon faces Toledo again tomorrow to finish off the weekend series. The game at Latham Park will begin at 2 p.m.
Elon finishes the tournament tomorrow with games against Detroit Mercy and the East Carolina Pirates. The games will begin approximately at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Elon will receive a first-round bye in the CAA Tournament and will play its first game on March 11 against the College of Charleston Cougars at 2:30 p.m. The tournament will be hosted by Drexel University at Daskalakis Athletic Center.

Elon will travel to play its next two matches against North Carolina State University and Davidson College on March 5 and 6. The next home match at Jimmy Powell Tennis Center will be against North Carolina Central University on March 11.
Elon continues the Elon Softball Cardinal Classic — the team’s third home tournament of the season — on Saturday with games against the University of Detroit Mercy and Michigan State. The first game at Hunt Softball Park will begin at approximately 12 p.m.
Through the team’s first four games this season, senior team captain Gillian Curran has scored 14 of the team’s 41 goals. The team continues its season with a game March 5 against Furman University.
Elon’s next match will be the Donald Ross Collegiate Classic in Southern Pines, North Carolina, March 7-8. The CAA Championship will be from April 24 through April 26.
Elon concludes its regular season on Saturday with a rematch against William & Mary. The game in Williamsburg, Virginia will begin at 2 p.m.
With the win, Elon is now 1-4 on the season. Elon will head on the road for the first time this season to take on the Furman University Paladins (0-1) on Mar. 5. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
After losing three of its best players from last season - Mekayla Frazier, Kenna Quinn and Ally Repko - Elon has turned to freshmen early in the season to play big roles with the team, something the Phoenix has not traditionally done.
