Football hosts first Pro Day in nearly a decade

Elon University Football hosted its first Pro Day in nine years Tuesday, March 19. Six Elon seniors — offensive linemen Oli Udoh and CJ Toogood, linebackers Warren Messer and Matt Baker, running back Malcolm Summers and long snapper Nicholas Kavouklis — showcased their athletic abilities before a dozen NFL scouts.

Local community reacts to New Zealand tragedy

Religious leaders from across campus came together Monday afternoon to show their support for the Muslim community in the wake of the terrorist attack in New Zealand, where a gunman killed 50 people and injured 50 more at two mosques. Nearly every seat was filled in the Numen Lumen Sacred Space to reflect, pray and support one another.

Elon University files objections against union

The university filed the objections with the National Labor Relations Board regarding the Service Employees International Union's election practices. In an email from Provost Steven House, the university rebuked the SEIU for what it viewed as aggressive outreach to potential union members and misrepresentations of the university's governance system.

Elon men’s basketball coach Matt Matheny fired

Elon University men’s basketball head coach Matt Matheny has been fired following an 11-21 (7-11 in CAA) season. Matheny coached 10 years for the Phoenix — five years in the Southern Conference and five years in the Colonial Athletic Association. Matheny will leave Elon with an overall record of 151-169. This comes days after three players entered their names into the NCAA Transfer Portal with hopes to leave Elon.

Elon softball loses to UNCG in the series finale

After losing both games to The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in a doubleheader on Saturday, the Phoenix (15-10-1) traveled back to Elon University looking to avoid a sweep. But the bats fell silent in the series finale, and the Phoenix fell to the Spartans 4-1.

Rabbi Sandra Lawson reimagines race and religion

After being hired by Elon University last June, Rabbi Sandra Lawson has explored the meaning of inclusion on Elon's campus through her intersectional approach. Because of her experience outside of religion and her transition to becoming a spiritual leader, Lawson's self-creation of her own meaning of Judaism has influenced her approach toward Elon students, faculty and the community.
