Elon eliminated in SoCon semis by UTC

A day after using a strong game down low to push past Appalachian State, the Elon University Women's Basketball couldn't repeat the performance, struggling in the paint on its way to a 77-44 semi-final loss against the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. With the victory, UTC moves on to play the winner of Davidson and Western Carolina The defeat ends the season for the Phoenix, in addition to an era, as Elon moves to the Colonial Athletic Association after a decade of Southern Conference play. It was a day where nothing went right for Elon, and nothing went wrong for UTC.

This was the third meeting between the two schools this season; they split the regular season series as both held their home court. With the win, Elon (15-15) advances to the semi-finals where they will face #1 seed Chattanooga (27-3) on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Elon women's track runs despite chilly weather

When 20-degree weather strikes, most people prefer to stay inside. But five days a week, the Elon women's track team is out running regardless of the weather. To senior Allyson Oram, a member of the track team for four years, this commitment to training is nothing out of the ordinary. "I've done workouts in the pouring rain," she said. Three days a week, the team runs six to eight miles, and they spend the other two days working out on the track.

The Elon University Men's Basketball team is on the road tonight to face Davidson in the last matchup between the two schools while in the Southern Conference. Elon will leave the SoCon next season for the Colonial Athletic Conference and Davidson will move to the Atlantic 10 Conference. "It's the last time both of these teams are in the Southern Conference," said Sebastian Koch, senior guard.

Basketball player’s unlikely rise follows historic scoring leap

Getting to the free-throw line is a major part of graduate forward Chandler Cuthrell’s game. He has attempted the 10th most free throws per game of any player in Division I men’s basketball this season, per ESPN. He was shooting 69% from the free-throw line through his first 27 games. In his final four appearances, he only missed two. As Cuthrell sank 11 of his 12 free throws at the Schar Center on March 2, he ended his only regular season with Elon men’s basketball on an emphatic, somber note.
