Zagster bike-sharing program ends

Zagster, the bike-sharing program implemented by the SGA last February, has ended. The pilot program was originally created by the Student Issues Committee after students requested a bike-sharing program. Student Body Secretary Rachel Hobbs said it took two years of research to get the system up and running. 

Elon falls to JMU in final men's game inside Alumni Gym

The Elon University men’s basketball team was unable to send Alumni Gym out on a high note,  falling in the closing act of the storied facility to the Dukes of James Madison University 90-84. Senior forward Brian Dawkins was hot early in the first half. He scored eight of Elon’s first 10 points. He would finish the first 20 minutes with 13 points and an assist. However he was unable to help out down the stretch, fouling out with 1:48 to go. Dawkins ended his final home game as a Phoenix with 25 points and an assist.

Elon News Network requested a statement from Elon University several times regarding its stance on high school students organizing peaceful protests and how this would affect admission. Elon admissions came out with its statement this afternoon on its Facebook page and homepage on Elon's website. 

Ubuntu: Black History Month concert unites community and culture

On Feb. 26, the Black History Month dance concert will take place in McCrary at 7:30 p.m. The concert features Elon students who study dance or went to Ghana over winter term. The show will exhibit West African dances, rhythms and costumes.

Men’s basketball comes up short against Northeastern

The Elon University men’s basketball team fell to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival Northeastern University on Saturday night at Alumni gym 81-59, marking the team’s fifth consecutive loss as it gears up for next week’s CAA tournament in Charleston, South Carolina. The Phoenix struggled to find its groove early, largely due to Northeastern’s suffocating defense that generated twelve points off ten turnovers in the first half. This saw the visiting Huskies lead for 17 of the first 20 minutes, and head into the halftime break with a 41-28 advantage. Northeastern was able to maintain control of the game throughout the final 20 minutes, effectively pushing its winning streak up to seven games. 

Baseball pulls out win against Marshall, evens weekend series

The Elon University baseball team (2-5) won its second game of the season against the Marshall University Thundercats 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Latham Park.  The game was filled with strong defense as the Phoenix put up zero errors and one double play. Sophomore starting pitcher Kyle Brnovich earned the win, giving up one run after pitching 7.2 innings.

Elon files its reply to former professor as discrimination lawsuit continues

Last January, former Elon University Assistant Professor of Business Michael Rodriguez sued Elon for discrimination based on the fact he was not granted tenure and his contract was not renewed. After more than a year since the original lawsuit and more than a month since Rodriguez filed a 2,270-page response, Elon has filed its 15-page reply to Rodriguez.

Elon Poll study finds that majority of voters cannot identify local officials.

77 percent of registered voters in North Carolina can name Cam Newton, quarterback for the Carolina Panthers. But, only seven percent can name their state senator, according to a recent study conducted by Elon Poll.

Neil Payne named next women's soccer coach

Neil Payne, associate head coach of the Texas Tech women's soccer program, has been named the next head coach of the Elon University women's soccer program.  Finishing his third season at Texas Tech before coming to Elon, Payne oversaw the Red Raiders win their first Big 12 Championship and helped the team reach the NCAA tournament in back-to back years.

Solid pitching gets Elon baseball its first win of the season

The Elon University baseball team (1-3) got into the win column for the first time in the young season, beating Radford University 2-1 Tuesday afternoon at Latham Park. Sophomore right-hander Mason Daniels took to the bump for the first time this season for the Phoenix. In his first game action since 2016, missing last season following Tommy John surgery, he completed 3.0 innings of work.
