Students received an E-Alert around 4 a.m. April 5, informing them of an assault earlier that night in the Mill Point neighborhood and urging anyone with information to contact campus police.
The alert stated, “At 2:38am, on April 5th, 2026, there was an assault that occurred in the Mill Point neighborhood involving a gun. The suspect fled on foot in the direction of Ball Park Ave. Suspect was seen wearing all black. If anyone has any additional information please contact Elon Campus Police at 336-278-5555.”
In a statement to Elon News Network, Sergeant Mike Brewer from Campus Safety and Police said because the case is still an ongoing investigation they can not provide any details about the case.
“All students and all citizens just need to be aware of their surroundings. And if they find or see anything suspicious, just call us, let us come out and check it out,” Brewer said.
Vice President of Student Life Jon Dooley sent an email out to the student body at 12:22 p.m. with additional information about the assault.
“A student had been assaulted by an unknown male individual near the Love Family Student Commons Building in the Station at Mill Point Neighborhood,” Dooley wrote. "The student was able to resist and get away from the assailant, reach safety, and immediately report the incident.”
Dooley reiterated that the suspect was wearing all black and fled on foot, and said that police are looking into the incident.
The Elon Police Department did not respond to requests for comment. Eric Townsend, spokesperson for Elon University, said he would get back to ENN with more information later April 5.
