Steven House issues an update on petition to unionize

Provost Steven House updated Elon University on a petition previously filed by the Service Employees International Union, Workers United Southern Region (SEIU) on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018. In the petition, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) demanded that the university hold a vote among adjunct, limited-term and visiting faculty members on the subject of forming a labor union at Elon.

Making a move forward

The drive home from her son’s 21st birthday dinner changed Nita Skillman’s life. Her car was hit by a drunk driver. Skillman has struggled to walk ever since. Since her accident in 2015, Skillman has struggled performing basic tasks with her lack of mobility, but a class project might be changing that.

Town of Elon passes ordinance restricting smoking in public areas

Smoking, vaping or carrying a lighted tobacco product will now be prohibited in all public areas of the town of Elon, according to the town's updated Code of Ordinances. This includes public sidewalks in the town of Elon and downtown Elon. A violation of this ordinance will result in a verbal warning or a $50 fine.

Elon University students prepare for internship, job searches

From freshmen starting to navigate the professional world to seniors preparing for post-graduate opportunities, understanding how to navigate the application process can make all the difference in landing an internship. “That doesn’t mean they need to start seeking out an internship right away,” Amber Moser, director of internships in the School of Communications, said. “Planning for it and researching and putting the pieces in place to be successful in your first year is really beneficial, particularly if students are double majoring, depending on the kind of double major they have.”

Newlin mientras los trabajadores del comedor se apresuran a preparar el almuerzo para el primer grupo de estudiantes. En esta escuela, la mayoru00eda de los alumnos comen gratis: sin formularios, sin pagos y sin preguntas. Para muchos, esta puede ser la comida mu00e1s segura que reciben en todo el du00eda. El Distrito Escolar de Alamance-Burlington cuenta con 28 escuelas que participan en el Programa de Elegibilidad Comunitaria (CEP), como la Escuela Primaria Harvey R. Newlin. El CEP es un programa que permite a las escuelas de zonas de bajos ingresos ofrecer desayuno y almuerzo gratuitos a todos los estudiantes sin necesidad de solicitar comidas gratuitas o a precio reducido.
