Elon University requires face coverings indoors and when social distancing outside is impossible

Elon University announced a new mask policy in which students, faculty and staff are required to wear face coverings while indoors as well as outdoors when six feet of physical distance cannot be maintained. The new mask policy went into effect 5 p.m. June 26.

North Carolina mandates face coverings statewide, Alamance County surpasses 1000 coronavirus cases

Face coverings will now be required in public places for all individuals in North Carolina effective Friday, June 26, Gov. Roy Cooper announced on Wednesday. In a press conference,Cooper said this mandate under Executive Order No. 147 comes after the continuous increase in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations in the state.

Low census response rate could cost Alamance County, Elon funds

54.1% of Elon residents have completed the 2020 Census, which began collecting responses in March, according to data released from the U.S. Census Bureau. Alamance County could lose more than $7 million in annual funding based on nonresponse to the census, a report from the North Carolina Office of State Budget and Management said.

ACE Speedway temporarily shut down by the state

Jason and Robert Turner, owners of ACE Speedway in Altamahaw, opened for their first race since October on May 23, after Gov. Roy Cooper initiated Phase 2 of reopening North Carolina amid the coronavirus pandemic. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services issued an abatement order against the speedway for violating mass gathering limitations.

LabCorp, Cone Health help mitigate coronavirus pandemic on local and national scale

With the help of LabCorp, Cone Health started providing polymerase chain reaction tests to their patients. LabCorp was the first commercial lab in the U.S. to provide these tests. With testing at three different locations in North Carolina — one located in Alamance County at the Alamance Regional Medical Center — healthcare workers at Cone Health collect nasal swabs from patients then shipped the samples to LabCorp for testing.
