Elon Football added 20 new players to its 2020 roster as a part of National Signing Day Feb. 5, 2020. The recruiting class consists of 14 freshmen and six transfer students, three of whom came from Power Five conferences.

The Elon University football team has not found the same success this season as they did last year. Despite that, the team sits at .500 (4-4) and has a winning record in the Colonial Athletic Association. Elon Football (3-4) defeated the University of Delaware Blue Hens (3-3) 42-7 on Saturday, Oct. 12. This was the fourth time the teams met and the first time the Phoenix has beaten Delaware.

In 2014, Elon University left the Southern Conference to join the Colonial Athletic Association. The James Madison University Dukes joined the conference in 1985 and in recent years have been the dominant name in the CAA in nearly all sports. JMU joined the CAA during its inception in 1979 and since then have collected 88 conference championships across 18 D-1 sports. The Phoenix and Dukes have become unofficial rivals in the past five years due to close matches, back and forth series and connecting storylines.
The Elon Phoenix won its first game of the season against the Citadel University Bulldogs 35-28 in its home opener. After the Phoenix dropped out of the national rankings with its opening-week loss against North Carolina A&T, the Phoenix are looking to get their first win of the season, and Trisciani’s first win as head coach.
An ACL injury is one of the most devastating in sports. The anterior cruciate ligament lies behind the knee cap and holds the tibia and femur together and without it, an athlete can’t walk. Quarterback Davis Cheek suffered a grade III “complete tear” in week seven last year. Now, less than 10 months later, he is ready to step on the field for the Elon University Phoenix.

Elon University football (6-5 in 2018) takes the field in 2019 with all eyes on them after their groundbreaking 2018 campaign. A new coaching staff, returning stars and seniors poised to end their careers on a high note gives fans at Rhodes Stadium a lot to stand up and cheer for.
