Ryan Keur ‘12 was 24 years old when he was named the youngest general manager in professional baseball. Now, he is the owner of the Burlington Sock Puppets, a newly rebranded team out of the Appalachian Baseball league, which operates in regions including North Carolina.

Fans will be able to watch the Elon football team in-person this fall. Elon University announced that the Phoenix will not leave North Carolina until October, but fans will be allowed inside the stadium for the fall 2021 season. The Phoenix are scheduled to kick off the season on Sept. 4 at home against Wofford.

Elon women’s lacrosse, now 9-4, is out of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament after losing to the No. 5 seed Towson University Tigers, now 11-7, in the quarterfinals. The Phoenix, seeded No. 4, fell behind early and were unable to mount a rally against the Tigers, who controlled the game throughout.

The women’s track and field team is on a high after the team’s 17.5-point victory at the Colonial Athletic Association championship win this past weekend. The championship win, the Phoenix’s third of the past seven seasons, will now give some members of the team the opportunity to continue into the postseason.

With the regular season now complete, the Elon women’s lacrosse team is turning its attention to this week’s Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Lacrosse tournament. The Phoenix are the No. 4 seed in the CAA Tournament and will play No. 5 seed Towson University on Wednesday, May 5 in the quarterfinals.

Redshirt junior softball player McKenzie Weber committed to Elon University and its softball team before stepping foot on Elon’s campus. She came as a transfer without ever seeing the school, touring or feeling out the campus environment, and her first in-person tour of the school came during orientation in August 2020.

Elon University volleyball players Leah Daniel and Jordan Gower both had exceptional seasons this year and now have the awards to prove it. Daniel took home the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year award, while Gower was named to the CAA All-Conference Second Team.

Elon women’s soccer wins first-ever Colonial Athletic Association championship after defeating No. 1 seed in the south division, University of North Carolina at Wilmington 1-0, propelling the Phoenix to the NCAA tournament. The team had their fourth straight shutout win.

Elon Women’s soccer (5-3) advanced to its first ever CAA conference championship after defeating the No.1 seed Hofstra Pride (7-1-1) 1-0. The defense prevented scoring opportunities for Hoftsra and allowed the offense to lift Elon to the finals.

Spring football for the Elon Phoenix has had its fair share of ups and downs after six games so far this season. It all started prior to Week 1 when the team learned it would be without senior starting quarterback Davis Cheek for the entire season due to a foot injury. Now, their final two games of the season have been postponed due to COVID-19 related issues within the program.
