Students gather to discuss problems in religion

Many different Christian organizations on campus joined together to sponsored the event Toxic Faith, an open discussion within the faith community about the role religion plays in people’s lives. Students from all across the religious spectrum were invited to join the conversation on battling what it means to have “toxic” faith. 

University delays, shortens classes Thursday

Elon University will open at 10:00AM Thursday according to an email from Vice President of Student Life Jon Dooley. The two hour delay is a result of "slick road conditions and low temperatures predicted overnight."   According to the email, those driving to campus are encouraged to use University Drive and Williamson Avenue. 

Elon narrowly edges visiting Towson Tigers

After Towson University senior guard Brian Starr missed a game-tying three pointer as the clock expired, the Elon University men’s basketball team escaped with a narrow win to start the 2018 calendar year. Trailing for most of the game, the Phoenix offense didn’t come alive until the second half, where it was able to secure the 75-72 victory. 

Social media manager Adam Constantine to leave Elon

A familiar bearded face on Elon University's campus is stepping down at the beginning of next month.  Adam Constantine '10, social media manager for Elon University, announced he has accepted a job as a social media specialist for Movement Mortgage, a home mortgage bank in Charlotte. He has been the social media manager at Elon since 2015.

Doug and Katie Arms announced in a video attached to an email to all IV members that Elon University's chaplains decided this academic year would be Doug's last year working with IV at Elon.

Many college students may want to bring their pets to campus, but some students can if those pets are registered for emotional support. In 2012, Elon approved the first ever emotional support animal to live on campus. Five years later, 60 students have emotional support animals registered.

Durant remembered for bringing out ‘the best in everyone’

In less than two months, Elon University has gathered twice to mourn the loss of a student. Students, faculty and staff gathered on Dec. 9 in the Sacred Space in Numen Lumen Pavilion, to remember the life of Harrison P. Durant, the 23-year-old Elon senior who died Friday.

Police investigating Elon student death on Friday 'as a suicide'

Elon University senior Harrison Pearce Durant, 23, has died. Town of Elon Police were called at 10:43 a.m. to his off-campus home in Partners Place Apartments.  Town of Elon Police Chief Cliff Parker said Durant's death is "an isolated incident." It is being "investigated as a suicide."

Swoope's scorching start

He doesn’t have to be tall to make a big impact. In fact, he’s the shortest starter on the Elon University men’s basketball team, but when Dainan Swoope steps onto the court, he makes his presence known.  The 6-foot, 185-pound junior guard has had a stellar start to the 2017-2018 season. Through the first nine games of the season, Swoope is averaging 17.1 points per game, which is ninth in the Colonial Athletic Association. The next closest Phoenix is redshirt senior forward Brian Dawkins, who averages 13.4 points per game and is 18th on the list.

A Taxing Change for Higher Education

Buried within a 429-page tax reform bill are provisions that specifically target those within the higher education community. In the bill titled H.R.1 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the elimination of student loan interest deductibility, tax exempt bond financing and tax exempt tuition remission are three provisions with the most potential to affect lives at Elon University.
