Elon University added Alpha Epsilon Pi, Sigma Phi Epsilon and Zeta Beta Tau to its Student Organization Disciplinary Status page following the end of the spring semester. The three fraternities are members of Elon’s Interfraternity Council.
Alpha Epsilon Pi has been placed on Disciplinary Probation and University Housing Probation through Feb. 12, 2027. They previously received an official warning for a Code of Conduct violation in fall 2025 relating to hazing behaviors and concerns around inconsistent leadership, unclear expectations and insufficient oversight during new member activities, according to the Student Organization Disciplinary Status page.
Hazing is defined in the Elon Student Handbook as “any intentional, knowing, or reckless act, whether on or off campus (committed individually or in concert with others) that is potentially harmful to an individual’s physical, emotional, or psychological well-being.” An activity can be classified by the university as hazing regardless of an individual’s willingness to participate or its role in the individual’s membership status in the organization.
According to the disciplinary status page, an investigation Jan. 22, 2026 found Alpha Epsilon Pi responsible for “violations related to hazing, host responsibility, endangering the health and safety of others, and sponsorship of activities involving the unauthorized use of alcohol.” The investigation determined that “underage potential new members were provided access to alcohol during recruitment-related activities and transported to additional locations where alcohol was present.”
In addition to disciplinary probation and housing probation, the status and action plan for Alpha Epsilon Pi requires at least 90% of active members to complete a values-based education workshop, risk management training and a hazing prevention workshop. Fifty percent of members must also complete social event manager training.

Sigma Phi Epsilon has been placed on Disciplinary Probation through Oct. 19, 2026. According to the violation summary, the organization accepted responsibility for Code of Conduct violations “related to hazing and alcohol during a pre-recruitment social event involving prospective members.” The incidents involved “alcohol-related drinking activities that created a high-risk environment and concerns regarding pressure to participate within the context of organizational affiliation.”
The status and action plan for Sigma Phi Epsilon also requires the completion of educational workshops for all active members prior to hosting future social events and social event manager training for members serving in recruitment or organizational leadership roles during fall 2026 and spring 2027 recruitment.

Zeta Beta Tau has been placed on Disciplinary Probation through Dec. 31, 2026. The violation summary states that the organization “accepted responsibility for violating the university Code of Conduct related to sponsoring an event involving the unauthorized use of alcohol.” The investigation on May 1, 2026, found that the incident “involved an off-campus social event where alcohol was accessible to attendees under the age of 21 and highlighted concerns related to event oversight and risk management.”
In addition to disciplinary probation, the chapter must host an educational workshop on alcohol awareness and risk reduction, create and implement an action plan to prevent future violations and facilitate a reflection summarizing workshop outcomes and lessons learned.
Elon Zeta Beta Tau president declined Elon News Network’s request for comment.
