Bend, but don’t break: the Phoenix are ready to fly

Last season was strange for every Elon University sports team due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Phoenix men’s soccer program had it no different. Their very first game of the season against Liberty was canceled and they only played eight games, less than half the number they play in a normal campaign.

Elon volleyball splits opening double-header

Blacksburg, VA — Elon’s women’s volleyball team began its 2021 campaign with two matches on Friday Aug. 27, 2021 at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia. The team faced off against the Toledo University Rockets of the Mid-American Conference and the Lehigh Mountain Hawks of the Patriot League.

Elon women’s soccer opens season with win over George Washington

In the Elon University women’s soccer season opener against the George Washington University Colonials on Aug. 19, junior forward Molly Mahoney scored the team’s first goal of the season in the 39th minute to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead. The team went on to win the match 2-0, with Mahoney’s goal ultimately serving as the game winner.

Alex Iadisernia earns baseball All-American honors

Alex Iadisernia was named to the 2021 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American team, powered by Diamond Sports, becoming the first Elon player to be named a Freshman All-American since Kyle Brnovich in 2017. He was also named the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Rookie of the Year and was selected to the conference’s All First and Rookie Teams.

Elon women’s lacrosse bounced from CAA quarterfinals

Elon women’s lacrosse, now 9-4, is out of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament after losing to the No. 5 seed Towson University Tigers, now 11-7, in the quarterfinals. The Phoenix, seeded No. 4, fell behind early and were unable to mount a rally against the Tigers, who controlled the game throughout.

No rest for women’s track and field after CAA championship win

The women’s track and field team is on a high after the team’s 17.5-point victory at the Colonial Athletic Association championship win this past weekend. The championship win, the Phoenix’s third of the past seven seasons, will now give some members of the team the opportunity to continue into the postseason.

Elon women’s lacrosse looks ahead to CAA tournament

With the regular season now complete, the Elon women’s lacrosse team is turning its attention to this week’s Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Lacrosse tournament. The Phoenix are the No. 4 seed in the CAA Tournament and will play No. 5 seed Towson University on Wednesday, May 5 in the quarterfinals.

Elon women’s soccer falls in first round of NCAA tournament

Elon women's soccer’s first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 1999 is over. The Phoenix lost 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA tournament to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. By the end of the first half, Elon women’s soccer was deadlocked at a score of 0-0 against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers.
