Hurricane Ian continues to bring storm damage to Florida as it makes its way toward Atlantic coast

The latest projection by the National Weather Service estimates Hurricane Ian will reach North Carolina by Oct. 1. Elon should expect 4 to 6 inches throughout the weekend, starting on Sept. 30 and continuing through Oct. 4, according to the National Weather Service in Raleigh.

“Factfulness” co-author charges Elon University students to stay curious

The 2022-23 common reading is “Factfulness: 10 Reasons We’re Wrong About the World- and Why Things are Better Than You Think,” written by Hans Rosling and co-authored by his son, Ola Rosling, and Ola’s wife, Anna Rosling Rönnlund. Rönnlund gave a virtual presentation Sept. 27 to the community, as she is based in Sweden.

CHEAT SHEET: Comparing monkeypox to COVID-19

Monkeypox was declared a global health concern over the summer and on Aug. 19, Alamance County had its first case of monkeypox. This is a disease that, according to the CDC, is spread through physical contact on the monkeypox rash itself, through touching objects that have been used by someone else with monkeypox or contact through saliva.
