Bodenarain appoints new Executive Board

An election that began with no candidates for three out of four executive positions has officially concluded, and Student Body President-Elect junior Morgan Bodenarain has released her decision for appointments for executive vice president, executive secretary and executive treasurer. Elon University junior and current SGA senator Spencer Wagner is the new student body vice president-elect and will succeed Elon senior Mark McGann.

Recent national rise in anti-Semitism causes concern among Elon Jewish students and faculty

In recent months, Americans have witnessed a surge in anti-Semitism throughout the United States. Combined with the desecration of Jewish cemeteries, bomb threats against Jewish community centers and schools across the country have provoked a national discussion about the recent rise of prejudice and bigotry against Jews. Although this heightened atmosphere of anti-Semitism has not physically manifested itself at Elon University, Jewish students and faculty on campus view the increased discrimination against Jews as a cause for concern.

SGA Hosts Town Hall for Students to Discuss Immigration Ban

When President Donald Trump signed an executive order temporarily banning immigration from seven countries in the Middle East, the Elon University community responded to the ban from University President Leo Lambert issuing a statement to university students, to students traveling to Raleigh-Durham International Airport for protests.

Elon athletes read with local elementary school students

“A person's a person, no matter how small.” The students at Eastlawn Elementary definitely took this Dr. Seuss quote to heart as Elon athletes walked into their classrooms, towering over them.  Sports players from the tennis, soccer, volleyball and football teams read their favorite childhood books to students in kindergarten through fifth grade for their "Read Across America" week.  The National Education Association celebrates reading on March 2, the birthday of well-known children's author Dr. Seuss.  Casey Collins, Eastlawn teacher and Elon alum, says they wanted to bring in athletes to, "show [the students] the potential that you can have, you can be on a team sport, the importance of being on a team, the hard work that goes into it." Besides reading their books, the athletes talked about balancing athletics and college academics.

Sigma Kappa sister takes a hard fall at big/little reveal

It's Sigma Kappa's big/little sister reveal today and an unusual moment has already gone viral.  For the little sister to discover who her big sister was the big sister finished the little's quote.  But immediately after Dick turned around and started running, toward Singleton she slipped.

Shumate's single ends Elon's 5-game losing streak

Senior infielder Kory Shumate's walk-off single ended the Elon University baseball team's five-game losing streak, capping off Elon's 4-3 comeback win over the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (UMass) Friday night at Latham Park. With the score tied at three, runners on first and second base and two outs, Shumate — who had started the night 0-for-3 — kept his composure to drop a walk-off single in deep right field, scoring freshman infielder Joe Satterfield and sending all of Elon's players racing to mob Shumate.

Softball starts home tournament with 2-0 win

Hosting its first tournament of the year, the Elon University softball team defeated Wagner University 2-0 Friday afternoon at Hunt Softball Park. Both teams were scoreless until the bottom of the third when junior shortstop Hannah Olson raced around the bases to score Elon’s first run.

Women's basketball routs UNCW to win CAA title

The Elon University women’s basketball team clinched its first conference championship in its Division I era by routing the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW) 82-48 Wednesday night in Alumni Gym. With the win, Elon earned the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) regular season title, finishing conference play with a 16-2 record. It's the first conference crown in the 18 years Elon's been in Division I and the first of any kind in 35 years, leading Elon to cut down a net after the game. The championship feeling still hadn't sunk in for head coach Charlotte Smith after going up the ladder last and wearing the net around her neck.
