People typically indulge in unhealthy foods during this holiday; however, there are several tips for people to keep in mind when buying all the ingredients they need to prepare the feast. Beginning with produce, people should always look to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. When considering what types of potatoes to buy, instant potatoes can be easier to make, but fresh potatoes are a much healthier option.

'No quit' attitude one of many bright spots in Elon's NCAA Tournament loss

LOS ANGELES — Trailing 4-0 against No. 1 UCLA in the second round of the NCAA Tournament as the seconds ticked off the clock, the Elon University men’s soccer team was still fighting to breakup the shutout even with the game well out of reach. In the 88th minute, Elon battled for a corner and while it couldn’t convert and the game ended in the 4-0 shutout, one thing stood out about Elon’s night: there was no quit in the Phoenix. “Quitting is not an option,” said junior forward Jason Waterman.

The BBQ state: Unique origins of barbecue define North Carolina history, culture

Political debates change with every season, but one argument that will never end in North Carolina is where the best barbecue comes from. Many native Carolinians have an opinion on which barbecue joint is the most famous or authentic, and it is often a joint around his or her hometown.  A quick description of the taste and texture of their local barbecue recipe is followed by a longer story describing the history and culture behind their specific shop, as well as the reason why it’s home to the “most delicious barbecue in the world.” Barbecue joints can be argued about for days, but the real question remains — What comprises a great barbecue sandwich, and how did North Carolinians become so loyal to pulled pork slathered with sauce? Timeline of the 73 hours between NCAA Tournament games for Elon men’s soccer

At 9:39 p.m. Eastern Time Thursday, Nov. 21, the Elon University men’s soccer team and fans charged the playing surface at Rudd Field in chase of a shirtless Jason Waterman, a junior forward on the team who scored the game-winning penalty kick for the Phoenix just seconds before against Clemson University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The on-field celebration was all the time allotted for the Phoenix to bask in the team’s first NCAA Tournament victory, a 4-1 penalty kick defeat of the Tigers.

Elon University physics major explores connection between quantum, classical physics in SURF project

Junior Muhammad Awal Tahiru’s project for this year’s Student Undergraduate Research Forum is focusing on how small-scale things move and how to bridge together quantum physics and classical physics. Classical physics deals with the predictable behavior of human-scale objects; whereas, quantum physics deals with probabilities of the smaller, atomic world of particles. These two types don’t always fit together, according to chair of the department of physics and astronomy Martin Kamela, who served as Tahiru’s research mentor.

Belk Library to add neuroinclusive spaces guided by student research

Over the summer of 2026, Elon’s Carole Grotnes Belk Library will create two new neuroinclusive spaces to better support diverse learning needs, building on the success of two classrooms in Lindner Hall that have been in use throughout the school year.These spaces are a result of research conducted by students: senior Kira Campagna, junior Benjamin Krasnow, and junior Kaz Kelly, who are studying what makes a classroom accessible and effective for all learners.
