In a move announced by Elon University Director of Athletics Dave Blank today, Nov. 25, the university has dismissed head football coach Jason Swepson. Swepson finishes his Elon career with a mark of 10-24 and only 5-19 in the Southern Conference.

This season, Elon finished 2-10, 1-7 in the SoCon. The Phoenix’s struggles were exemplified in the fact that the team did not score a second half touchdown after Sept. 21 over a span of six straight games. Five of Elon’s losses came by ten points or fewer, and the Phoenix held double-digit halftime leads in three of them.

Elon was dominated by their opponents in nearly every major statistical category in 2013. Elon was outgained 5,622-4,277 yard, and was even out-passed by two run-heavy triple option teams, Georgia Tech and The Citadel.

The new head coach will inherit a team expected to return a majority of its starters for its first season in the Colonial Athletic Association, which begins Aug. 30 with a non-conference game at Duke University.

Stay with The Pendulum for continuing coverage of Elon’s coaching transition.
