Glossing over Puerto Rico

For three Elon University students, going home for Fall and Thanksgiving Break will mean facing a new reality on the island of Puerto Rico.  Hurricane Maria struck the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico Sept. 20., two weeks after the island was barraged by Hurricane Irma. The recovery is estimated to take years and cost $30-60 billion. As of Oct. 2, 16 people have been confirmed dead by Maria, while 30 remain missing. Meanwhile, the majority of the island is still without power and lacking access to basic necessities such as clean water, fuel and food.

McEwen dining hall renovations on schedule

Construction fences surround McEwen Dining Hall, but renovations have not begun yet. Brad Moore, the Elon university architect and director of planning, design and construction management, said constructions are still on schedule.

WSOE celebrates 40 years of student radio

While the community may be familiar with Elon University’s student-run radio station WSOE, few know their call sign actually stands for "Wonderful Sounds of Elon." This year, the station is celebrating 40 years of broadcasting across Elon and Burlington. The station has heard from many WSOE alumni as they celebrate four decades.

Vigil in Numen Lumen allows Elon community to grieve and reflect after Vegas tragedy

Members of the Elon community gathered in Numen Lumen Pavilion on Monday afternoon in what was called " a time of prayer and lament" following Sunday night's mass shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The vigil, which was hosted by the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life, allowed people to speak and voice their thoughts and feelings. Among those that spoke were Jan Fuller, university chaplain, and Joel Harter, associate chaplain for protestant life.
