Elon reduces waste by growing its recycling initiative

Elon University consistently promotes its environmentally conscious initiatives, such as geothermal heating, compost bins, the BioBus system and recycling.  As Elon has been growing as a school, it’s recycling program has been growing in response. David Worden, director of environmental services for Physical Plant, has worked with the recycling program for more than thirteen years. 

Local food bank asking for donations during the holiday season

Allied Churches of Alamance County (ACAC) is the largest feeding program in the county, located less than 5 miles from Elon University’s campus. Their goal is to improve the community by helping residents find housing and secure meals.  Originally, ACAC began as a core group of churches pooling its resources to serve community better. But today, ACAC acts as its own nonprofit funded by more than 100 churches in the local community.

Phoenix outlasts Peacocks in double overtime

The Elon University mens basketball team outlasted the Peacocks of Saint Peter’s University in double overtime on Saturday night in Alumni Gym. Despite the Phoenix's offense being held stagnant at multiple points during the game, Elon was able to secure the 71-65 victory.

Creating a home away from home

 Even before Thanksgiving break began, the residence halls at Elon University were decked with Christmas decorations. Previously, cobwebs, spiders and pumpkins were the main source of ornamentation, but as early as Nov. 1, these scary adornments were replaced by cheerful bows, stockings, snowflakes and garland.

Men’s basketball edges South Florida in overtime thriller

The Elon University men’s basketball team secured its third home victory of the season on Thursday night, defeating the University of South Florida in overtime thriller, 79-78. In a string of fate, this marks the third consecutive year in which the Phoenix has played (and won) a home overtime game on November 30th.
