SGA Senate Recap: Oct. 31

At Thursday night’s SGA Senate Meeting, Elaine Turner, director of Residence Life, explained Elon’s strategic plan to create a more engaging residential program. In fall 2014, Elon will roll out a new residential plan designed to support the needs of students during all four years of their college experience.

Singing group holds book drive benefit concert

On Saturday, a cappella singing group Twisted Measure presented an Aca-Book Drive, a concert to benefit the Worldwide Book Drive, a philanthropic business that works to distribute books to people in need. Admission was free with one book donation, and attendance was so great that the number of book donations was far more than anticipated by Twisted Measure members. But Twisted Measure wasn't singing solo that night.

ACC ready to rule college hoops once again

The fear surrounding much of the whole conference realignment movement that has happened over college basketball in the last five years has been regarding the formation of “Super Conferences,” or leagues with 16-20 schools that dominate the landscape of the sport. Yet, the realignment did the opposite in the case of the mighty Big East. Over the last decade, the Big East and its 16 teams has been a ruling force in college basketball, winning four national championships and earning a total of 12 Final Four berths.

Latin American cookbook reveals flavorful, bold recipes that defy culinary stereotypes

Cheesy enchiladas. Hot and spicy fajitas. Crispy hard shell tacos. These are the staples of Latin American cuisine, right? Not so, says cooking instructor and local food writer Sandra Gutierrez, who recently released her second cookbook, “Latin American Street Food: The Best Flavors of Markets, Beaches and Roadside Stands from Mexico to Argentina.” In fact, the type of enchilada Americans chow down on is very different from a Guatemalan enchilada, which is actually a tostada topped with peas, cabbage and a vibrant beet slaw.
