Former Elon University quarterback Davis Cheek signed by Carolina Panthers

Since the first NFL Draft in 1936, only 17 players from Elon University’s football team have been selected by NFL franchises, and only three have been taken since 1992. Cheek is the eighth Elon player to be signed by an NFL team as an undrafted free agent.

For the first time since joining the Colonial Athletic Association in 2014, the Elon University women’s tennis team has advanced to the CAA Women’s Tennis Tournament championship match after coming from behind to upset the top-seeded College of Charleston Cougars 4-3.

Elon University’s 10th Lavender Graduation celebrates LGBTQIA graduates, history

Hosted by the Gender and LGBTQIA Center, Lavender Graduation is a ceremony that honors graduating students who identify within the LGBTQIA communities. With 48 students participating, the 2022 celebration had the largest class of graduates in the event’s history.

Local textile mill celebrates 140th anniversary

Alamance County had 30 textile mills running by the end of the 20th Century according to the Textile Heritage Museum. Elon University history professor Mary Jo Festle thinks textile mills played a big part in forming the values of Alamance County that can still be seen today.

Elon University women’s tennis team sweeps UNC Wilmington in CAA Tournament quarterfinals

With the win, Elon advances to play top seeded College of Charleston tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the semifinals. Charleston defeated Hofstra University 4-0 in its quarterfinal match and beat Elon 5-2 on March 15 in Charleston.

Voter guide: primary elections are underway

During early voting, registered voters can go to any polling place in their district to vote until May 14. On election day this is not the case and voters should go to their registered polling place. Registered voters can also send in an absentee ballot until May 10.

Ukrainians in the Carolinas group emphasizes education

Every day, Walter Ostrowka checks the news for the latest updates from Ukraine. The Ukrainian North Carolina resident has watched his family’s country be attacked by Russia for over two months. But while Ostrowka is concerned about those facing daily attacks, shellings and deaths in Ukraine, he is also concerned about how Americans view the war and other international issues.
