Elon Move-In: Frenzy at Target

For all those last minute “need-to-have” items, Target comes to the rescue. Students and families flocked to Target today to get everything they may have forgotten at home or didn’t realize they needed. The goal: to buy everything you need while your parents are still there so you don’t have to pay for any of it. But after a few hours, there was no where to park and some items sold out.

Uplifting Black males on campus

The recent police shootings, current political climate and protests such as the one Charlottesville, Virginia have led senior Alonzo Cee to combat the negative stereotypes aimed at black males. While interning and doing research at the Alpha Phi Alpha headquarters this summer, Cee came to the realization of the lack of support systems that exist for black males on college campuses. “The books I was reading and researched talked about that there needs to be support groups specifically targeted for black men in order to make them feel like they have some worth, have that connection and have that bond,” Cee said. Cee’s research focused on African American men on college campuses and he came across the subject of support systems in predominantly white college campuses.

EDITORIAL: We must go further than standing with Charlottesville

Following the terrifying and tragic display of white supremacy at the University of Virginia and in Charlottesville earlier this month, many people and organizations across the nation have pledged their solidarity with UVA and everyone affected by this tragedy. This event struck a chord with many Americans, showing us all the reality of white supremacy, fascism, neo-Nazism and the remaining power of the Klu Klux Klan.

Kevin Jermyn chasing down new goals as cross country coach

With the season-opening race on Saturday here in Elon, the new coach of the cross country team looks to elevate the program to places it hasn’t gone before. On July 13, Athletic Director Dave Blank announced that Kevin Jermyn would be taking the helm of the cross country program.

When the Elon University football team took to the practice field Saturday afternoon, there was a hint of rustiness as the start of fall classes loomed ahead for the coming week. First-year head coach Curt Cignetti wasn’t using it as an excuse though.

Campus organizations unite against racial tension

In April, former president of the NC Mu chapter Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and senior Owen Gaffney used a racial slur toward a black student, causing a campus-wide conversation regarding racial issues. Now the organizations are redefining their perspectives and working to increase inclusivity.

Ciolkowski sets eyes on third title

Nick Ciolkowski is the two-time reigning Colonial Athletic Association individual champion. Going into this season, the junior aims to capture his third title, but also sets his eyes on something larger.
