Elon University President Leo Lambert will deliver the Commencement address to the Class of 2018, according to an email sent to seniors. The announcement keeps the tradition of having an Elon related person speak at commencements.

The assistant director for the Center for Race, Ethnicity and Diversity Education (CREDE), Bell, knew that the event was celebrated annually at Elon University, a similar trend for the majority of college campuses. But Bell wanted to be different in honoring the civil rights icon. When he sat down to think, the question Bell wanted answered was how Elon would do the greatest amount of service involving the most amount of people. 

Greek Life: Through the haze

In recent months, the conversation around hazing has become a national conversation. In 2017, four student deaths involving hazing became viral stories, bringing the conversation around the all-too-frequent Greek life practice to Elon. According to the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, 42 percent of Elon’s student population belongs to a Greek organization. With National Panhellenic and the Interfraternity Council recruitment happening at the end of the month, Elon said it is preparing to counteract the hazing trend, should it arise.

One is left-handed and the other is right-handed. One is a redshirt-senior and the other is a freshman. Both play for the Elon University men’s golf team representing the same last name.
