Fall musical reimagines Broadway classic

The Elon University performing arts department is presenting its fall musical — “42nd Street” — beginning Oct. 29 and running through Oct. 31. This weekend’s performances consist of two evening shows at 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for the general public or free for students with your Phoenix Card.

Live theater returns to Elon University

Online auditions, masked rehearsals, show cancellations and virtual performances. While the traditional theater experience was modified by the COVID-19 pandemic, this academic year, live performances are making a comeback at Elon University.

Dance research collaborates with multifaith scholars program at Elon University

Senior Emily Wilbourne will present her research on Thursday, Oct. 28, at the Tradition & Innovation in Korean Dance event, sharing the richness and depth of Korean dance both then and now, in addition to highlighting adjunct instructor in performing arts Jiwon Ha. Ha, who is from Busan, South Korea, virtually guided Wilbourne while she studied there in both the fall and the summer.

Fall Pride at Elon University

Elon University’s Gender and LGBTQIA Center held a Fall Pride event this Friday, Oct. 22 at the Phi Beta Kappa Commons from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event had games, tie-dye, GLC information and a safe environment to meet new people.

Love & Valor connects through melodies

Jesse Fox, lead vocalist of Love & Valor, grew up listening to the tunes of James Taylor, Jim Croce and Billy Joel in his parents’ home. These melodies and seeing his father play guitar are what inspired him to pursue his own music career.

Elon University student advocates for alopecia awareness

Elon University sophomore Samantha Katz spent over 14 years using different treatments to combat hair loss due to alopecia, but at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, she decided to go completely bald. At the same time, Katz decided to start a YouTube channel to spread information, tips and tricks for those living with alopecia.

Building connections with J&J Tattoo

Joshua Hall was selling his art to his friend’s dad before he realized where his career was headed. His friend’s dad was a tattoo artist, which soon influenced his future path. Now, Hall’s tattoo studio in Gibsonville has clientele across the East Coast.
