Hurricane Ian continues to bring storm damage to Florida as it makes its way toward Atlantic coast

The latest projection by the National Weather Service estimates Hurricane Ian will reach North Carolina by Oct. 1. Elon should expect 4 to 6 inches throughout the weekend, starting on Sept. 30 and continuing through Oct. 4, according to the National Weather Service in Raleigh.

Town of Elon restaurants prepare for Family Weekend

Elon University’s annual family weekend begins Sept. 30, drawing people from all over the country to campus. According to a spokesman from the Family Weekend Committee, 1,989 families are registered to attend this weekend’s festivities, and local businesses are preparing for the busy time ahead.

Men involved in East Haggard Avenue shooting identified as Burlington residents

Town of Elon police have released more information about the Sept. 17 shooting at 957 E. Haggard Ave., identifying the two men involved as Burlington residents, ages 52 and 55. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation remains active, according to the police department.

Elon nursing improves interactive environment for second year

Sophomore Maddie Xerras said she fell in love with the medical field at a young age when she would go with her father, who is a doctor, to his office. Nursing was perfect for Xerras because after only four years as an undergraduate, she could become a registered nurse — as opposed to going to medical school after college. She chose Elon because she loved the campus, the size of the school and was excited about the new nursing program.
