Provost search committee announces four potential candidates

Elizabeth Hudson, Aswani Volety, Deborah D. Ricker and Jason W. Osborne have been announced as finalists to become the next Elon University provost. All four candidates will be on campus this month for interviews and opportunities to engage with the community.

Elon is set to join the Common Application

While the Common App has not officially confirmed all the schools in the 2019-2020 year’s class, Elon has decided to become a member of the Common App for the upcoming application season.

NC law would require rideshares to have an illuminated sign

The illuminated sign on a car showing an Uber or Lyft driver arriving is thought to make ride-sharing services safer, according to John Bell, house majority leader of the North Carolina General Assembly. He is sponsoring a law that would require ride-sharing cars to have a “consistent and distinctive illuminated sign.”

Harwood named first-ever Elon CAA Golfer of the Year

Junior golfer William Harwood was selected the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Golfer of the Year as selected by the nine conference head coaches.  This award makes the junior from Colombia, South Carolina, the first CAA Golfer of the Year in Elon Univeristy history. Going into the 2018-2019 season, Harwood was just hoping to tally five top-10 finishes and two individual wins as a way to step in for loss of experienced seniors. 

Elon Community Garden hosts 11th annual Strawberry Festival

The Elon University community is invited to enjoy free strawberry treats and plants for sale at the 11th annual Elon Community Garden Strawberry Festival from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 3, at the Elon Community Garden located behind the Sklut Hillel Center.

SGA fall 2019 candidates will not be allowed to hang posters, flyers

The fall 2019 elections will now be paperless, according to legislation passed by SGA Thursday, May 2. 

Women's Track and Field looks to claim first conference title in two years

With the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Track and Field Championships set to kick off this Friday, the Phoenix will be looking for a shot at redemption. The championship for Women’s Track and Field will be held at Elon University for the first time since 2016. Coincidentally, that was also the last time the Phoenix took home the CAA title.

N.C. House Bill could increase ICE presence in local communities

The North Carolina House passed a bill this month that would require county sheriffs' departments to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Currently, sheriffs' departments have the authority to decide whether or not to work with ICE when they receive immigrants.

Survivors speak out at Take Back the Night

Take Back the Night is an event hosted once a semester by the Gender and LGBTQIA Center (GLC) in partnership with the Iota Psi chapter of Alpha Chi Omega and other student organizations, according to Becca Bishopric Patterson, assistant director of the GLC. Students have the option to speak about their experiences in a designated safe space.
