Some students seek to stay on campus during Fake Break

Elon University will be closed following J-term from January 25 to February 2, 2020 for fake break, according to Residence Life. Like Thanksgiving, winter, and spring breaks, students may not remain on campus in their residence halls unless they submit a formal request.

Tornado watch in effect until 11 p.m. for Elon

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for 27 central North Carolina counties including Alamance County. The NWS also issued a hazardous weather outlook for the same area. Both are in effect until 11 p.m. Thursday night.

Periclean Scholars class of 2022 share one common characteristic

The Periclean Scholars program is a three-year experience offered by Elon for a cohort of selected students. Each cohort works with a foreign country of choice on a long-term service project. Students can apply their freshman year for the program, and the newest cohort, the class of 2022, looks a bit different from other years.

Chapel Hill pro-Palestinian camp disbands after arrests

For a total of four full days, students at UNC-Chapel Hill joined many other universities, including Columbia University in New York City, by creating on-campus encampments to protest the Israel-Hamas war and connections to the Israeli government. At roughly 6 a.m. authorities moved onto Polk Place to make arrests following a statement by Interim Chancellor Lee Roberts and Provost Christopher Clemens calling protesters to disband. According to The Daily Tar Heel, 30 protesters were arrested on April 30. The camp was organized by the “Students for Justice in Palestine at the University of North Carolina,” and included students from other universities including Duke University.

Elon University increases amount of fellows for 2024-25 academic year

Next year, Elon University will add 100 spots to its various fellows programs — raising cohort sizes. Elon will accept over 300 fellows across eight programs for the 2024-25 academic year. The Business Fellows program will accept around 60 new fellows, compared to the 52 for the class of 2027 and 40 for the class of 2026. The increase is leaving current fellows worried about what it means for the programs. Kate Rohan, a sophomore in the business fellows program, is concerned about the problems that she feels will come with the larger incoming class cohort.
