Volleyball dominates 5th set to close out Gardner-Webb

The Elon University volleyball team hosted Gardner-Webb University Friday Sept. 13, and neither side was able to run away with the victory throughout the first four sets. Then the fifth set happened. Elon rolled easily to a 15-2 set win, and toppled the Runnin’ Bulldogs 3-2 (25-22, 19-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-2) in the first game of the Elon Phoenix Classic in Alumni Gym. “I think we were determined to not lose another fifth set,” said Elon head coach Mary Tendler, referring to the team snapping a three-game losing streak in five set matches.

New Requirement for Communications Fellows Program

Elon Alumni Win Sprite Film Competition

Elon Alumni Dean Coots and Michael Tahan won both the fan vote and the Judge's Award for their 60 second film, "Break the Night." The short film features break-dancers, music, and lots of paint. Coots won $30,000 for directing the film, and the School of Communications received $5,000. "I really wasn't expecting to win both.

The star Heisman-trophy winning quarterback from Texas A&M University has filled headlines for the past year, from the time he rolled over eventual national champion University of Alabama to when he skated through NCAA hearings and received a surprisingly small punishment for what could have been a major scandal. But what Manziel really has created will carry on long past the final snap he’ll play in an Aggies’ uniform.

More Than 700 Bricks Stolen on Campus

It's only been three weeks into the fall semester, and already more than 700 bricks went missing from the pathways and sidewalks on Elon's campus. Some call it an innocent tradition, but others, a criminal offense. Danieley Center Resident Assistant Kelle-Anne Gecawich isn't a fan of the tradition. "One of reasons why I hate it when bricks are being stolen, is the fact that when they are found, we have to carry them," Gecawich said. Upperclassmen share their views on the tradition as well. Senior Village resident Ben Perron chooses not to steal bricks because it goes against what he considers moral. Perron referenced the Bible, concerning especially the teachings of Jesus Christ. Senior Jimmy Stevenson chooses not to steal them because of the dangers that loose and missing bricks can cause when riding bicycles or skateboards. "If you go over ground where missing bricks are, you can face plant," Stevenson said. Stevenson then made reference to unfortunate personal experiences the tradition has caused him. Elon Campus Safety and Police are penalizing offenders with fines, and second time offenders can receive misdemeanor charges.

Town of Elon holds community meeting over proposed changes to RV policy

Around 20 people attended the Town of Elon’s community meeting April 13 to hear from residents and recreational vehicle owners on potential changes to the town’s RV regulations. An identical meeting is planned for April 23 at Beth Schmidt Park Community Center, and any policy changes are scheduled to be presented at the May 26 Elon Town Council meeting.

Burlington man charged with 20 additional charges of solicitation, sexual exploitation of a minor

A Burlington man, who worked at The Oak House coffee shop in downtown Elon as an assistant manager as of March 2026, has been charged with 10 additional charges of solicitation of a child by a computer and dissemination to a minor under 16 years of age, alongside 10 charges of sexual exploitation of a minor after initially being arrested March 5. The dissemination charges date back to November 2025.
