With the development of e-readers, the question of a library’s value in modern society arises.

AUDIO: 'Homeless to high-flying' dog show promotes rescue and adoption

[audio wav="http://www.elonpendulum.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Pendulum-K-9s-in-Flight.wav"][/audio] As the holidays approach, Elon students look forward to not just the familiar faces of friends and family, but the excited barking and wagging tails of their canine companions. For students who may be missing their pets at home, the K-9s in Flight exhibition at the North Carolina State Fair gave fairgoers the chance to pet some well-trained rescue dogs and cheer for their long jumps, frisbee catching and flips. Although he is a strong advocate for rescuing and adopting dogs from shelters, trainer John Misita urges college students to think cautiously about adopting a pet before they are ready.

Video: Past transfer students offer tips to Elon's latest transfers

Elon University welcomed 102 transfer students to its campus this fall. Kelly Hook, who transferred last fall from Eastern New Mexico University, and Lindsay Arnold, who transferred from the University of Arizona, spoke to The Pendulum about their experiences as non-traditional Elon students and gave their advice for this year's incoming transfer students.

Elon University expansions leave off-campus residents scrambling

Her first night at Elon, junior Kelsey Eshleman was invited by members of Elon Young Life to a bonfire event at an off-campus house, affectionately nicknamed Full House. That night, Eshleman said she remembered thinking how cool it would be to live there with her newfound friends. Now, Eshleman is still close with many students she met her first night and is one of five people living in Full House. But after living in the house for this past year and signing her lease renewal for next academic year, Eshleman and her roommates received a message from their landlord in February — the house that had been a pass down in Elon’s Christian community for 15 years was no longer available to rent.

Elon’s new bakery, Cakes etc. by Cindy, embraces community amid advertising roadblocks

A wall of sweet smelling baked goods greets customers as they walk into Cakes, etc. by Cindy. To enter the bakery, just look for the neon open sign on the ground floor of the Acorn Inn. People can find the owner Cindy Pettiford behind the counter along with her husband, Cory Pettiford and her three sons.  The bakery opened last year on July 15, 2023 and has continued to produce goods ranging from pound cakes to cobblers to banana pudding. Before baking, Cindy worked as a part time customer service worker and notary on top of baking at home.
