Elon University Student Government Association announces candidates for 2023-24 academic year

Elon University’s Student Government Association elections will open at 8 a.m. March 27 and close at 5 p.m. March 28. There are a total of 33 candidates running. All Elon students may vote on PhoenixCONNECT for their desired class representatives, finance board members and academic senators.

Elon University students look for counseling services elsewhere due to lack of accessibility on campus

According to its website, Elon’s student health and counseling services’ mission is to provide medical and mental health care to students. The university's counseling services offer students access to mental health support with a staff that is trained and prepared to help students with a wide range of educational, social and emotional challenges through goal-oriented therapeutic sessions.

As Elon University students left campus for spring break this week, some students stayed back due to a full-time work schedule. Many of those students include seniors in Elon’s Teacher Education Program, requiring the education majors to align their schedules with a K-12 school system calendar.

SAMUELS: I won’t be playing Hogwarts Legacy

It felt like the internet was constantly reminding me of the existence of Hogwarts Legacy for the length of 2022, trying to sweep me up into the hype for the game. On Feb. 10, Portkey Games released the long anticipated Hogwarts Legacy to gamers and “Harry Potter” fans all across the world. Despite being such an influential intellectual property, The Wizarding World is no world I want a part of, especially not for $70.

Elon University’s Jewish Learning Fellowship welcomes largest cohort yet

Over a year and a half later, Elon University Athletics and Opendorse, the NIL company, announced a partnership. On Feb. 27 the two teamed up to create the Forever Phoenix NIL Network. The deal will allow Elon athletes to elevate their personal NIL’s across social platforms.

16 faculty granted permanence at Elon University through tenure

Elon announced granted tenure for 16 faculty members Feb. 24. According to Elon’s faculty handbook, its goal each year is to have 85 to 90% of faculty tenured. As of the 2021-22 academic year, just under 50% of faculty were tenured — with another roughly 22% being on track for tenure.

Elon University students relieved over 70% decrease in Eli Lilly insulin cost

Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk and Sanofi own roughly 90% of the global insulin market. While costing less than $10 to manufacture, the average annual amount of out-of-pocket money that people with health coverage have to pay for insulin has more than doubled over the last two decades, according to Health System Tracker.

Elon University women’s basketball pursues CAA championship

After the final sound of the buzzer March 2, the Elon University women’s basketball team earned one more home victory and walked off the court at Schar Center for the last time in the 2022-23 season. Five players, including graduate student guard Lenaejha Evans and graduate student center Evonna McGill, walked off the court for their final time in maroon and gold.
