Campus solicitation policy still allows advertising

Elon does not have a solicitation policy for on campus mail, preventing most outside vendors from leaving flyers, coupons or other advertisements in student's mailboxes, but students still see outside advertisements in their mailboxes. It turns out there are some exceptions to this policy that are allowed by Elon's relationship with International Management Group, a sports management company that works closely with the athletic department on campus. IMG, who is responsible for stadium signs, team programs and sponsorships among many other branding outlets concerning sports, works with the community to match local businesses advertising with the students it wishes to reach. Jacob Powers, the general manager of Elon IMG, is a vital part of connecting outside vendors with the branding they're looking for. "We put together a platform, a marketing plan that would hit all of their wants," Powers said. Advertising in on campus mail boxes happens a few times a year at the beginning of a new sports season. Powers stressed the importance of spreading out ads over the course of a year. "It goes from September of football all the way to April and May and baseball season," Powers said.

Rally falls short as Drexel holds off Elon men’s basketball

Trailing by as many as 16 points with 13:28 to play Monday, Nov. 18, against the Drexel University Dragons in the 2013 NIT Season Tip-Off in Piscataway, N.J., the Elon University basketball team went on a 17-3 run to pull within two points. The two-point deficit was the closest Elon would ever get to the Dragons, as Elon would never lead in the game and fell 71-64 at the Rutgers Athletic Center on the campus of Rutgers University. After Elon pulled the game within two at 52-50, Drexel went on a 10-2 run to all but down the Phoenix.

On ‘MGMT’: Fragments of psychedelia and experimentation amount to an interesting, albeit ultimately unfulfilling, listen

MGMT established their music as youthful and energetic electronic pop rock with their debut album, “Oracular Spectacular.”  Their popularity grew quickly with the releases of “Kids,” “Electric Feel” and “Time to Pretend.” With great anticipation surrounding their follow-up, “Congratulations,” MGMT could have gone in two distinct directions: create more of the pop electronic music that fans so admired from them, or venture into unfamiliar musical territory. Of course, they chose the latter, creating a psychedelic rock album that still managed to infuse electronic elements into it.

Masquerading as a 'good girl' sends message of antifeminism

A few years ago, few would have expected Disney Channel’s glitzy, girly child-star Hannah Montana to be dancing onstage at the VMAs sticking out her tongue (amongst other body parts) for the world to see? Stripping down to perform is nothing new amongst artists; Madonna did it in years past, and Lady Gaga does it regularly in her performances.

McWorld Abroad

After a long night in the city of Florence, Italy, many Elon University students craving the comforts of home find their way to “The American Diner,” a restaurant in the heart of the City of Renaissance that’s been serving bacon, eggs and home fries since 2004. Greasy American diner food isn’t what normally comes to mind when one thinks of Italy.
