EDITORIAL: Students have power to create national change

History has shown us time and time again that high school and college students have the power to create meaningful and lasting change, both on their campuses and nationally. The long history of student protests both nationally and in the United States should empower us all to use our voices and our positions of privilege to make change on a larger scale.

Elon men bow out in first round of CAA Tournament

The Elon University men’s basketball team’s season concluded Saturday night, March 3, when the Phoenix fell to the University of Delaware 86-79 in the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament.  Elon was unable to stop a hot-handed Blue Hen team who finished the game shooting just over 57 percent from the field. Sophomore guard Ryan Daly and junior forward Eric Carter finished with 23 and 20 points, respectively.

“I understand that Elon has been working on increasing diversity on campus trying to triple international students. However, Elon as a whole has a lot more work to do before it can accommodate such an increase within a group that requires more to adjust than majority students,” Kamal said.

Building to success: Elon’s national physique competitor

Elon University sophomore Michael Lombard is not your everyday student athlete. He doesn't just count his caloric intake, watch his nutrition, keep track of his protein and lift heavy weights to stay in shape or play a sport, he is preparing to compete and show off his razor-cut physique in a World Natural Bodybuilding Federation (WNBF) competition in May.

Phoenix victory over the Tribe leaves women undefeated in Alumni Gym

It was the last game in Alumni Gym for Elon women's basketball, and the team went out with a bang.  The Phoenix defeated the Tribe by 21 points, making a comeback from their last game against William and Mary on Jan. 20.  This game makes the team's ninth straight win—and their 18th consecutive win in Alumni Gym— making them undefeated this season on their home court.

Never Again Movement comes to Elon

"The national Never Again movement to stop school shootings came to Elon University’s campus tonight. Students Brendan Duff and Theresa Prayther, alumni of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School organized a vigil in honor of the 17 people who died at Parkland High School on Feb. 14. "

Masters in higher education to launch at Elon in fall 2018

A new two-year full-time program for a Master of Arts degree in higher education starts in Fall 2018 at Elon University. The new program aims to educate the next generation of institutional leaders. The program will provide students with hands-on experiences that will equip them to work for colleges and universities.

After 68 years, Alumni Gym hosts its last athletics events

Opened on Jan. 14, 1950, Alumni Gym was built to honor the Elon University alumni who lost their lives in World Wars I and II. It has since remained the centerpiece of Elon athletics, hosting the greatest players to wear maroon and gold whose records still stand today.

Nation has reached tipping point for gun control

With 17 students dead and a nation rallying in support of change, gun legislation is on the forefront of debate.  Already in 2018 there have been three cases of open fire shootings in schools which resulted in injury or death. The first at Marshall County High school in Kentucky, then Italy High School in Texas and the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Fla.
