SGA Senate Recap: Oct. 17

At Thursday night’s SGA Senate meeting, a $1,500 special allocation to a group of five students traveling to India during Winter Term passed in a 36-3-9 vote. The group will spend more than two weeks there to participate in a Rickshaw Run, a 1,800-mile journey down the west coast of India using auto-rickshaws as transportation.

Siewers’ late goals gives Elon women's soccer thrilling win over Furman

It ain’t over until it’s over, right? In a match-up of two of the highest scoring women’s soccer offenses in the country, Elon University faced a number of deficits against Furman University, the first-place team in the Southern Conference. But the Phoenix never gave up, coming back from margins of 2-0 and 3-2 to earn a 4-3 victory over the visiting Paladins, capped by two goals off the foot of freshman midfielder Kelly Siewers in the final 12 minutes of play. The win snaps a three-game stretch in conference play in which Elon failed to come through with a victory, instead settling for a pair of ties and a loss. “We had been struggling from a chemistry standpoint,” said Elon head coach Chris Neal. “Even though our conference record was .500, we were incredibly disappointed.

On ‘AM’: Arctic Monkeys meet the desert

When Arctic Monkeys' latest album dropped last month, they’d captured the attention of everyone from Elton John to Robert Pattinson. In the ten years they’ve been together, each of Arctic Monkeys’ five albums has taken the number one spot on the UK charts, something that’s never been accomplished by any band on an indie label before. The new album, “AM,” has become the second best selling record of the year, right after Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories.” It’s currently in the running for a Mercury Award, competing in the category with heavy hitters the likes of David Bowie. It’s undeniable that Arctic Monkeys are a success.
