Elon falls behind early, can't climb back against No. 8 Duke

The Elon Women's Lacrosse team looked to play spoiler against the eight ranked Duke Blue Devils Saturday afternoon, but came up short in a 17-8 defeat in Rhodes Stadium Elon (1-1) got two goals a piece from Sloane Kessler, Molly Garrigan and Stephanie Asher in the contest.

Students use Rate My Professors to select classes

Many Elon University students, like college students across the country, use a website called Rate My Professors when selecting their classes. Rate My Professors has become popular by providing an online forum for students to rate their teachers on several factors.  The overall score, which students pay attention to the most, is an average. Freshman Cal Dougherty said that for the most part, the ratings lined up. “There were certainly some that seemed unnecessarily low, but I think that’s just because students personally have bad experiences with certain professors,” he said. But not all students use Rate My Professors when selecting classes. “I have never used Rate My Professors,” said freshman Sara Carlson.

Elon man arrested near campus on felony firearm, drug charges

A Town of Elon man was arrested near campus Friday on an array of charges, including possession of a stolen firearm and possession with intent to sell marijuana, according to the Alamance Narcotics Enforcement team. Antonio Yellock, a previously-convicted felon, was arrested Friday morning in the 500 block of S.

Let Us Breathe was a way for Elon students to express their own thoughts and experiences regarding social justice for the Black community through art, song and poetry.

Cheat Sheet: Free community college

President Barack Obama has big goals regarding American education standards. A major part of his plan includes making the first two years of community college free for any student with a C+ average or better. By 2020, Obama hopes that the United States will once again have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world, and that community colleges will produce an additional five million of them. His desire for an additional population of community college graduates stems from the increasing perceived need to have at least an associate’s degree in the professional world.

Review: ‘Tapped Out!’ demonstrates talent, exuberance

Tap dancers dressed as Mario and Luigi, an all-female rendition of Fall Out Boy’s “Young Volcanoes,” and a dance choreographed to Matt and Kim’s “Daylight.” These pieces, among others, were featured in “Tapped Out!,” a medley that combines tap and vocal performances into a short show that showcases some of the best performers Elon University has to offer. During the last weekend of Winter Term, select faculty and students from Elon’s Department of Performing Arts performed their yearly rendition of “Tapped Out!” There were only four performances, which were split between Friday and Saturday, Jan.

Grief, loss support group provides comfort for Elon faculty, staff

Elon University associate chaplain Rev. Julie Tonnesen said loss and grief are universal emotions, but found that they can be difficult for faculty and staff to process while continuing their usual routines. “Even when we show up to work, that doesn’t mean that we get to put the rest of our lives on the back burner,” Tonnesen said. “Our grief comes with us. It’s not something we can just keep on a shelf at home.” In collaboration with Counseling Services, the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life, began offering a monthly group for faculty and staff to support those affected by loss.

45 años después de los primeros casos de VIH/SIDA reportados en Estados Unidos, la lucha contra esta enfermedad está lejos de terminar, especialmente en el sur del país. "Sabemos que el VIH/SIDA ha afectado de manera desproporcionada a las personas de color y a las personas LGBTQ+ de color en este país", afirmó Jeff Bennett, profesor de estudios de comunicación en la Universidad de Vanderbilt.
